Welcome to my BLIND first playthrough of Final Fantasy XVI (FFXVI)! Not only is it my first playthrough of Final Fantasy 16 (FF16) but it is also MY FIRST EVER FINAL FANTASY GAME! I'd never played any FF game because I didn't grow up playing the franchise and then after a while it felt like it was just so big that it was almost inaccessible. There are hints beforehand that Ultima is influencing Olivier with the blue eyes of the puppet that he plays with. There are even moments when the puppet has blue eyes when Olivier isn't in the room. So that is the symbolism of Olivier's eyes turning blue at the end. The Ultima storyline loops around to other themes in the game... without spoiling, the Anabella and Clive's relationship is important context to Ultima's line "return humanity to it's proper place."

@@deangraves7462 Yeh. It seems like Ultima is able to cast berserk on Eikons, so they lose control. Both Benedicta, Hugo and Dion had yellow eyes before going Primal.

@@Zacban Yes and no. I think there is a limit to that power. He seems to be only able to do it when the Dominant is in a hyper emotional state. Clive's panic at Phoenix Gate, Benedikta's fear at the lost of her power/agency/identity, Hugo's and Dion's grief at the lost of a loved one. I think you have to be willing to submit or be in a weakened emotional state for Ultima to influence you.

Bahamut fight is the most epic thing I've ever seen in any RPG game. The build up, the reunion, the music, it's unforgettable.

I appreciate you breaking down each section of the game! As for the scene between Barnabas and “Hugo”, I simply think that Ultima was mocking him / displaying his dominance because of men’s “meekness”.

I think the Barnabas/Ultima scene wanted to convey that human connection like love or loyalty will ulitmately lead to and individual's death considering how all thre characters that were shown died - Benedikta died as a result of her loyalty to Barnabas, Hugo died because of his feelings for Benedika and the incapability to let her go and I assume Barnabs's mom also died (maybe it also involved Barnabas?). Ultima definitely wanted to mock Barnabas and showcase how connection makes people weak and vulnerable (thus the nakedness), like he just mentioned in the scene just before. I think you were right in saying that the sexual undertones deftinily were meant to show the submissiveness and how in the end Barnabas is just a mentally troubled servant to Ultima. Also I really enjoy your commentary and analysis, great job!💜

This game connected me to Joshua from the very start; everytime i saw him on screen my heart fluttered. What an absolutely beautiful charcter, i hope we get to see more of him in the future

Playing as Ifrit AND the phoenix (Especially with the AWAY OST playing it made me break my chair haha) IT WAS PHENOMENAL!

Benedikta loved just one man: Cidolfus Telamon. Hugo and Barbanabas where just means to an end. She is a practical woman, and knows what she wants. She was really poor and vulnerable before Cid saved her and she doesn't want to go through that ever again. It became her personal journey for revenge against the world, and that is way she was beyond saving. She felt betrayed by Cid when he decided to save the bearers and reshaping society instead of focusing on giving her what she "needed". Think about their elements: What is lighting if not air moving really fast and coliding with itself. Hugo/Titan earth's means the strenght, stability, endurance and consistency that she needed so bad and last, but not least, we have Barnabas/Odin, signifying her embracing her darkside, losing hope and turning into something else less "bright" (evil/vengeful/resentful).

Not sure if anyone directed you to the composer for all the music in the game or not. I don't think I mentioned it at the time. Masayoshi Soken is the mastermind behind all of the XVI score and most of the MMO RPG Final Fantasy XIV's music. He even worked through having cancer in his hospital bed to see his work done by his own insistance. He is a true legend.

Every Eikon has it's own theme in the OST, and every Eikon pairing has it's own theme in the soundtrack as well. They all have lyrics in latin that when translated fit amazingly well, but don't look them up til you've beaten the game, then go back, ,listen to them and have your mind blown all over again Java.

There is usually a big bad that ends up being some kind of cosmic horror in FF games. Like fighting Bahamut in space may seem crazy but space is a constant theme in many FF games.

After I played this battle the other day I came on KZfaq to see everyone else’s reaction and I’m glad I’m not the only player that had their jaw on the floor at some of those pivotal moments. 😂

In the cutscene after Annebella killed herself you see the Phoenix picking Goetz up, its the only thing that makes sense why he does that :) little subtle scene

And here my friend. Welcome on one of the best gaming battle ever made. This game's story is so f***king good. Bahamut's eikon's arc is one of the best. It's been orchestrated brilliantly. This all game is a "crescendo". And we're half way there. My only regret It's I missed the twitch stream due to work. Glad i could see it here. Keep going

Saddest part about anabella's death is Joshua essentially had to watch both his parents die by Blade to the neck, also if you speak to Vivian you can see a character sheet of what characters are thinking at specific points in the game, Clive did always care about his mother and his mother always cared for Joshua so having her take her own life Infront of them both is the only sad part about it

This fight was truely epic in any way. Music, gameplay, cutscenes, everything was on point. Definetly a battle you could replay multiple times without having to worry to get bored. Had high expectations of Bahamut since he was always the one you'd thought to stand no chance against, and he still is. And even the attacks he has in this game never were in the older ones as far as I know f.e where the hell did he pull out the Teraflare? He was holding himself back until now 😂

Kinda late to say now but regarding side missions the ones marked with a + symbol give tangible rewards beyond just XP. At a certain point I just focused on those.

I've noticed that barely any players I've watched use the magic burst attack in Eikon fights. Remember you can magic burst between normal attacks and Ifrit/Ifrit Risen does soo much cooler attacks! Regardless, you had one of my fav reactions when Joshua and Clive merged, haha. Holy shit. Glad you're enjoying the hell out of FF16. It's by far my GoTY in every sense of the word, let alone one of my fav games of all time now. And potentially my #1 FF, even after being an FF mega fan and having played every single entry. Sure, it's not perfect, but I adored eeeeevery second from start to finish on both playthroughs and I took my time. Talked to every NPC, complete every sidequest, Chronolith, etc. An absolute fucking masterpiece.

Omg its so hard to be vague, I have no clue where this one is going, as the “pure balance” or “pura stratera” in latin I struggle with duality…anyways Bahamut in space is a FF thing, and yeah that was the second most epic fight I have seen in FF, and I started with 1 on the Nes…Id love to see your reaction to the one I find even more wow…but of course I wont say what/who/which game etc. (If you happen to do it youll know) also btw if you just want badass tunes and story Id suggest Chrono Trigger…best OST ever imo, used to record it on tapes off the TV and listened on my walkman, still listen almost 30 years later…worth looking into. This is so lovely though

Yeah Ultima is a "Final fantasy-ism" that you'll see in throughout the entire series. I liked it but I do agree that the human interactions are much more interesting. I think the Hugo transformation was just a way of Ultima humiliating Barnabas. I wouldn't read too much into it. I also don't think the benedicta scene was meant to be sexual for Barnabas. It was definitely meant to be portrayed that way to the viewers but not for Barnabas himself. It was supposed to be a jarring scene, where someone we thought was dead shows up again and is in a dominant position over someone she was supposed to serve. I think it was just a way of demonstrating the power dynamics between the two. With Olivier it isn't super clear, but it's implied that Oliver was probably always Ultima. Also don't forget to upgrade your limit break gauge! 😭

Are you aiming Spitflare using both analog stick? That's might be why it's feel wonky, both sticks are use for aiming during Spitflare but they function the same as eachother individually, so just use one, I normally use the right stick only to aim so I don't conflicting the control. Also Bahamut is not the strongest as a summon normally in the traditional of most the FF series. It is the stronger ones but normally we have a secret summon that usually blow every other summons out of the water. FF1 - FF5 sorry I've played it but I can't remember FF6 Crusader FF7 Knight of the Round FF8 Eden FF9 Ark FF10 Magus Sisters FF 11 and FF14 are Online games FF12 Zodiark FF13 Can't say for sure, might have been Ragnarok FF15 Bahamut but.... FF16 Clive, not a summon but might as well be 🤣

It's one of a very few times I beat it and immediately restarted the section to show my anime loving partner as you couldn't get more anime (power ups, beam struggles, fusion, etc)
