I have not had any of the issues noted in this review, I have had three of these covers on Ram trucks two on 1500 Rams and one on a 2500 Ram. Sounds like some of this is how the user operated the pull cables and how the strap was tightened when using the straps to secure the panels when you only open two or three of them. I live in Florida and my truck sits outside in the sun. If you are having resistance pulling the pull cables that means you need to align the cover better, the pull cables should work smoothly and freely, if one side is hanging up the cover needs alignment. Pulling harder on the cable to get the nylon piece to release on one side is not the answer, alignment, alignment, alignment. For the plastic retainer clips that use the straps to hold the cover down when it is partially open just loosen the straps then engage the male buckle into the female buckle then tighten the strap, do not pull on it like a gorilla you only need to take up the slack and a very slight tug beyond that, the cover is not going to blow open. For the two knobs that hold the prop rods they as well do not have to be cranked down hard, just screw them until you feel resistance then add just a little more tightening and they will secure the prop rods fine when the cover is in the open position. Don't be a gorilla when pulling the cables to open the panels, don't over tighten the straps to hold the panels in place when not fully opened and when tightening the knobs to lock the prop rods into place don't crank down on them. For the rubber parts use a rubber protectant like 3M 303 Protectant, it will condition the rubber and provide UV protection. Even if you keep your truck inside if you have florescent lighting that puts out harmful UV that will cause the same damage as being in the outside sun. Just some tips on using the BAKFlip MX4 style cover.

I had one for ten years on my 13 F350 and just installed one last week on my 23. Great cover as far as I’m concerned.

Just relaying my experience. Glad yours was better! Even if it held up better, the camera views being blocked drove me nuts.

Just relaying my personal experience with it. I really like the roll-up I replaced it with and being able to use the high camera to see the gooseball & 5th wheel while hooking up!

Nice to know for owners with ball or even fifth wheel hitches, but first I have ever heard of it. I guess being tall helps to remove the bolts from both sides and just lift the folded cover up and away, Install...that is where it is more difficult, but placing it in place, installing the two start knobs and opening and fitting to the bed again and then carefully opening and tightening the bolts does not require me to get into the bed, but does take some time. Compete removal is more of a problem for us taller folk to crawl under to remove the two bolts; but heavy (that too subjective), and no two people not required. Again, the height and the fact they do not feel heavy for me means I just unhook. Your breaking parts and material cracking? Not happening and I also know a guy who has one on a four or five year old Nissan that has never seen the inside of the garage is outside in desert sun and has had no problems. Yearly a rubber seal spray is wiped onto the seals (it's an RV product). Retainer clips after a year in the sun will break....usually the female part in the elements all year long. Bak will send new ones while under the warranty. Looking at zinc plated steel buckle sets. Can only find in rose, rose gold, gold, silver and gunmetal black. But I bet they can be painted. They will not break and not affected by the sun. But sounds like a roller cover is best for your application and info might be good for some others.

Had the Bak Flip cover little over a year and on my 2nd cover. The 2nd cover that I installed in June is now leaking at the joints and asking for a full refund. I would never purchase again

@ ooman what's better diesel or gasoline pickup? Thinking about a new vehicle. I need a pickup either a 2014 raptor v8 or ram turbo diesel. I'm not hauling nothing but firewood, boat or jet ski but I commute 80 miles each way during the week.

Love the Raptor V-8's! ...buttt they don't get great mileage or have big towing capacity. If you're only looking to tow jet skis, small boats, or firewood, it should be fine. Ram turbo diesel will probably get better mileage AND have more towing capacity. Since I am partial to Fords for HD trucks (despite being a GM guy my whole life), I would recommend looking at a F-250/F-350 as well. Diesels also don't drop as many MPG's when you tow compared to gassers. Gotta look at the 90/10 rule. See what you're using it for 90% of the time, and then make sure it will handle the other 10% despite maybe dropping huge MPG numbers. Downside to diesels is that they do have a higher maintenance cost. My rule of thumb is buy a bigger truck than you think you need right now, because as soon as you have one that's good enough for what you need, you get something and suddenly find you need a bigger truck! Case and point....I got the F-450 dually diesel because my old F-350 SRW (single rear wheel) V-10 gasser was pushing the limits on what I was towing. I jumped up two notches, and next thing you know, I ended up with the toy hauler, which needed either a F-350 or F-450 dually diesel to tow. If I had only gone to a F-350 SRW diesel (which I almost did), I would have had to upgrade the truck too.

What gmc would you recommend? I'm a fast sedan guy. Maintenance don't matter I'm a diesel mechanic. FYI I left the union after i was informed what they stood for.

@@mikeleogeo1 I haven't kept up on GMC's in a long time. We always had late 90's/early 2000's Chevy/GMC 1500's and Suburbans. I'm not an extreme brand loyalist, but I like the Chevy/GMC's for light duty trucks and the Fords for 250/2500 and up. The Fords just have heavier duty suspensions IMO. Chevy/Ford/GM all make decent trucks these days. They all have pro-s and con-s. Just google "common problems with 20xx BRAND MODEL" and you'll find plenty of people telling you about the problems they have with their specific truck...
