Here are some of the primary rigs I use up at Baker Lake. My goal and hope is that this information will help someone else be successful in their efforts at Baker or at other Sockeye fisheries. I'm no "old salt", I'm sure there are better rigs, but these are just my go-to rigs.

That top rig (2" pink hoochie with smile blade, only size 4 hooks and maggots) is what I absolutely slayed Kokanee at Dworshak with last week. Limited (25 fish) in well under 2 hours, then took the kids out to catch more.

Seriously thanks. I'm new to the area from Tennessee and am going to be trying out baker lake this weekend. Appreciate the information.

I pulled it off with my Kokanee set up, sling blade and pink hoochie and smile blade. Only needed to size up the hooks to a size one.

Your double d dodger is backwards. Hootchie connects to the other end.

You may want to use the spin n glow or smily blade with the protroll 360 flasher. The metal blades weight more and will not have as much action. Or size doen the metal blade for more action

That protroll was a flop. Tried it on my trip this week. It requires about 1.6 mph to properly flash/roll. I troll at around 1 mph. But I appreciate the tip.

He’s the question I’ve been trying to find an answer to, is there anywhere to put in with a kayak that’s not the bait ramp at the south?

If you have a kayak you can put in at Shannon Creek. Might have to pay for a day parking pass, $10. Just get there early. Most mornings if you get there by 4 am you will get parking.

Thanks bro for the great info. One question: how do you set up your weight? And how much do you let the line go if you're speeding like 1mph?
@nw_angler
@nw_angler 2 ай бұрын
I use a snap slider on my main line above my bumper. I have tried using a snap on weight rig but find that it is too much to deal with to unclip the weight while reeling the fish in. Sockeye are feisty. As far as length of line goes, at 1 mph it should t require much. It would also depend on the weight you are using. There are quite a few charts out there or calculators that can help with that. Also, at those speeds, you may be able to see your gear on the sonar to help gauge depth. I fish at 45’ actual depth all the time at baker regardless of what I see on sonar.

@@nw_anglerthanks! Do you think a white smile blade would work or should I put on a pink one?
@nw_angler

@@kobetakemura5179 can't say for sure. But I don't see why it wouldn't be effective. Would still impart the same action/noise.
