Tampa local here, Baker is our QB he found a home in Tampa because we embraced him as he is. Gave him the freedom to do what he does best, and we thank him for everything. He's got that DAWG!!! He fits in perfectly with our rowdy krewe and we're going to suprise people this year.

No one's wrong to say he's a disappointment from a #1 pick perspective but to act like this man hasn't been absolutely disrespected at almost every stop in the NFL is nuts. The only time this dude has even had the same system and coaches for more than a year is his injury plagued 2nd season with Stefanski which he shouldn't be crucified for. Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts are also both 6'1" and they both went to the Super Bowl and nearly beat Patrick Mahomes, and neither of them had a problem pushing the ball downfield over defensive lines. Drew Brees was six feet tall and he's a Super Bowl champion, a guaranteed Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Kyler Murray at 5'10" is a short quarterback. Second, Trevor Lawrence is also a #1 draft pick, and has he lived up to expectations for the Jaguars? Has he shown that he was worth a five year, $275 million contract?

If you look at the first 6 seasons of Baker Mayfield vs Drew Brees the numbers are very similar with Baker edging Drew out in several categories. QBR for Drew was 87.5 and QBR for Baker was 88.1. It’s more about finding the right fit as a QB than anything else. Too many coaches in the league think a QB should adjust to the system the coach wants to run instead of creating a system that fits the QB’s individual skills. It will be interesting to see where his career goes from here but all things equal he got as good a shot as anyone to be an all pro year over year with the players he has around him.

If Baker is “average” because he was a #1 pick in the draft then keep that same energy for Trevor Lawrence.

Baker has been inconsistent, and I’m a huge fan. But when baker is comfortable in a system and has weapons he can win you games. So while he has underachieved as a #1 overall pick , I think he’s done well considering all of the turnover with coaches and OCs he has gone through. Even now in Tampa he will have his 7th OC and 6th HC in his career. Hopefully he can string some consistency together and play through his contract with some momentum for the rest of his career.
