I started watching Jackie and Shadow about 3 years ago when she laid one egg. That bird became famous. His name was spirit. A group of grade school children came up with names and Spirit was decided on. J and S didn't have a viable egg last year. It was tough on them to give up sitting on it but I think it was Jackie who finally convinced Shadow that the egg wasn't going to hatch. When they started spending less time in the nest, a Raven pecked away at the egg and ate it. No chick had formed. When they were still mating after Jackie was sitting in 2 eggs, it surprised everyone. It makes me feel they are determined to raise babies. Shadow in my mind is the star of their lives. He's so dutiful always bringing Jackie a fish. He also brings sticks to the nest. Most of the time, I think he trying to impress Jackie so she will get off the nest so he can have his turn. Shadow is a great mate but an even better father. I check in them daily several times.

They're such gorgeous creatures. I found them a few weeks ago randomly and have been watching them ever since. They are such a sweet, quirky, attentive pair with a beautiful view. They're great parents; looking forward to seeing the little ones soon. Btw, that camera placement is top notch. chef's kiss 👌

I have been watching these two over a year. Last year it was so horribly sad because they lost their eggs😢 No matter how long they incubated them. You could see how they suffered and how they tried over and over to have a new nest with no luck. So to see 3 beautiful eggs this year ❤❤❤ They built their nest up higher and stronger so hopefully it will give the protection they need. It is like watching the Bold and the Beautiful 😂😂😂

@michaelhalahan5 ай бұрын
Maryc--4pf As it turns out, our eagles very much like the snow storms--less so, rain. It's relaxing and they frequently fall asleep incubating the Eggs. Snow has an insulating effect on top of an Eagles feathers , like an Igloo is to a native Alaskan . No matter the Temp outside, inside the Igloo , the Temp is normally 40 Deg F. I can't speak Eagle ese but don't believe they like the Rain as much. Two of Jackies Eaglets (Separate Clutches) died of hypothermia from Freezing rain/ice storm in late spring Remember , it's high elevation--over 7000'.

Of course climate change has to be mentioned. It's California. Big snow is quite normal for the mountains of California. Always has been. Now it's a climate disaster. And a "challenge" for them. LOL! Most Bald Eagles live in Canada. And snow is quite normal. What they neglect to say is that Jackie had a full crop. No need for food for a few days. Not to mention that Shadow brings her food and sits on the eggs so she can go hunting too.
