9/19/22.Yes, 2day watched you replace mower belts & sealed spindle bearings on JD-L100. Another very helpful video. Also shared 2 earlier videos of yours: 1st on **Never (ever) Jump**/power-pack boost (!) a dead battery causing computer'chip' burnout ($100) of little black box.. EMU(?) which causes a 'no-start' after 'new battery replacement' condition ! Wow..that was very helpful! 2nd was yur vid on fixing hood crack using that 2-probe electric heat/melting tool & 'wiggle' staple insert. As always, you clean & paint 🎨 JD colors when finished so owners/customers have their mowers 'glowing-in-the-dark' when you are done! Very nice videos 📹 👍. Thx again for making these very helpful & beautifully photographed/illuminated/edited fix'er-uper videos. Stay safe & give us YT viewers more! 👍👍👍⚙🛠👏

Phenomenally comprehensive tutorial! Great content! Magnets work well to hold the deck braces together after de-pinning them from the deck. As for the main drive belt, setting the Park brake adds significant slack to that belt thus eliminating the need to block its tension mechanism with your rubber mallet. Why Deere chose to create galvanic corrosion via dissimilar metals in their spindle assemblies is just beyond stupid. Aluminum cast spindle held with four steel bolts that all sheared off due to the corrosion. Steel bearings pressed into the aluminum spindle again creating galvanic corrosion. It's as if the whole spindle assembly is designed to fail as a unit.

Is there a difference between aftermarket and OEM bearings because I always use aftermarket. I'm just curious if there's actually different. I don't know enough about them
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 Жыл бұрын
+Repair Gang There is a difference, but on a mower with relatively low RPMs and little frictional heat generated, the aftermarket bearings seem to work fine. In my 30-plus years of doing this type of work, I've never had one come back that I've replaced. Most of the OEM bearings I've seen on residential mowers are not brand name bearings like Timken, NSK, SKF, etc. but rather unbranded bearings with no name visible. The best advice I can give to prolong the life of any deck bearing is to keep grease in the spindles (even with sealed bearings) and take a leaf blower or compressed air and always blow clippings and debris off the top of the deck to avoid trapped moisture. If you're replacing bearing on a commercial mower or a mower that's used for extensively large yards it's something to consider but I'm not sure you'd ever see a benefit from the higher-priced OEM or name brand bearings. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 🦅🇺🇸

Great video. Only question is, how did you ensure the steering was aligned? Was that an issue?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 6 ай бұрын
There are two ways to address this. The first one is to simply center the front wheels and them drop the steering shaft in and turn it until the wheel is in the correct orientation. The second way is to drop it in without worrying about it. If you do it this way just pull the cap off the center of the steering wheel. Remove the nut and pull the steering wheel off and turn it to the correct orientation and put the nut back on. I generally use the first method and if I’m off a little I’ll correct it with the second method.

Brother- I have been a subscriber for a long time, your content is excellent. But you scare the holy hell out of me when I’m watching you grab potentially sharp blades without wearing a good quality pair of leather palm gloves, using impacts without eye pro etc. Now you have been doing this for a long time and have scars on your knuckles like most of us wrench turners do, gloves just don’t fit in confined areas, we get it. Through experience, we learn tricks of the trade and we all take shortcuts. I’m guilty has charged sir, and I have the scar on my inner thigh when a seven inch angle grinder with a concrete cutting blade got away from me when it slipped from my ungloved wet hands, walked back and bit me on the inner thigh while I was wearing shorts cutting the small concrete curb installing a French drain. I was wearing eye pro and respirator though… 😂. For the benefit of your viewers who haven’t worked on equipment or have a lot of experience using power tools, I suggest that regardless of your skill level, everyone should always wear the proper protective equipment for the job you are doing… again I watch all of your content, I ain’t hatin, I’m just saying… keep up the good videos!!!

Helpful video! By the way….I have a similar mower deck, not the same, 42” deck on L100 / Scott’s L1742. Belt is too loose. No way to make it tighter. The sliding bracket for the engagement spring is already slid all the way. I drilled an additional hole farther away on the bell crank / pulley bracket for the engagement spring, hoping it would pull farther, if the cable was stretched. No good, belt is still too loose. Is it possible that someone put a pulley on the deck, that is too small? I’m using the John Deere belt that is called-out. I even had to take the deck out of adjustment, to push it farther away from the crank pulley. What on earth is wrong with this turd?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 10 ай бұрын
It’s tuff for me to say without looking at it but yes. It is possible that someone has but the wrong pulley on it. A few other things to check. Make sure the belt is routed correctly. Make sure there isn’t something restricting or limiting the movement of the engagement arm. Double check the belt length and actually measure the belt to confirm it’s correct. It’s possible you ordered the correct belt but received the wrong belt. Also confirm the mower has the original or same size deck as the original. If someone swapped out the deck for a different size that could be your issue.

I certainly will do that. I just wondered if the fact that it only happens when I raise the deck indicated something specific. Thank you for responding! Love the videos!

Well….I’m an idiot. I had the front linkage arm upside down and when lifting the deck it was hitting the front flywheel. Hopefully this will be helpful to others. I did take off 1/16” from each side of each of the gator blades…they are longer than the originals.

@@dburnsworth Thanks for the follow up. I’m usually left wondering if things ever worked out for most people. 😁👍 I’m glad you figured it out.
