You can cast darkness on your party, step outside and do your shit. Then step back inside the darkness for cover and end your turn. Darkness is just 10 turns off disadvantage on attacks against your party and immunity from ranged attacks. Darkness is S tier at least, even without darkvision. SS with Darkvision

Darkvision won't let you see thro Darkness (or Fog) or immune to blindness. there're certainly a few items do and handy enough to make a Darkness immune party.

yea I think he means the warlock invocation dark vision but his point still stands, you just need 1 person with it to peel/take care of the baddies that make it to you I do think because this list is just looking at a subset of the most impactful spells, with how limited the use case where it is super powerful is it shouldn't be top tier here

Aid doesn't provide temp hp, but increases the hp maximum and it lasts for the entire day. So it's incredible to cast out of combat in preparation every day, like longstrider. Smells like A tier for combat, though, with aoe heal to pick up downed allies

Conjure woodland being is so good! The dryad can summon a wood woad, and cast spike growth. Both the dryad and wood woad can ensare enemires, too. Great summon for some CC

Sanctuary is S tier. It has SO many exploitable uses (exploitable as in clever use of game mechanics, not exploiting bugs). You can get Grym to chase someone with Sanctuary making positioning it under the hammer super easy. You can put it on a downed ally to prevent enemies from delivering a coup de grace, you can cast it AFTER taking a hostile action in the same turn (like channel divinity, on a light domain cleric) allowing for really aggressive positioning of said action, you can activate certain debuff auras from within Sanctuary *without* breaking it such as Phalar Aluve's "Shriek" variant. The list goes on. If you have a lot of mastery over the game's combat, Sanctuary is unquestionably S-tier. It's great for healing/buffing, sure, but it can be used to do SO much more. Heck...I bet the under water timed dungeon in Act 3 (if you know you know) would be a cakewalk if everyone has oh... idk... expeditious retreat and Sanctuary? The spell is quite simply *insane*. Not quite S+, I agree with your limited choices there, but Sanctuary is just... ~chef's kiss~.

Sanctuary is amazing if you are tired of your allies being downed again the same turn they were saved. Gives them sanctuary, let them be save until they can do anything again, then back into the fray instead of only being able to move and use a bonus action.

The only thing I disagree with is the placement of Healing Word. Lol. At least me personally, I never use Healing Word purely for the sake of healing, I use it as a bonus action and ranged way to bring a downed ally back into the fight. Which - depending upon the ally - can change the tide of the battle. I also like that it cuts down on actual character deaths. Particularly if you are doing a play through in which you don’t use Withers to resurrect a character once they die for real. 😅

Can't believe conjure woodland being is at B when she can solo act 2 bosses. Really surprised hold monster is this low, it really trivialize bosses in act 3. Can't help but notice none of the aoe CC are on the list. Not even confusion? Darkness should have it's own tier above s+ called "Darkness tier"

Agreed- woodland being is what's up! A summon who: can summon another summon, heal itself (albeit only a small amount), crowd control, hit hard with shellalegh, AND gives a passive buff to everyone around??

aid are not temp hp, they increase you max hp with a buff, meaning the difference is temp hp cant be healed back up the gotten hp from aid can.

It also means Aid and a Temp HP boost stack, unlike temp HP from multiple sources. And there are several items and spell mechanics that can reapply temp HP per turn.

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but there seems to be a bug with (i have only tested) the adamantine splint armor, and the illithid power "freecast" if you equip the and unequip the armor it seems to reset freecast, so on my lvl 1 tempest cleric and full wizard, i can essentially equip -> Unequip freecast elemental and rhinse and setup another spell if i want like armor of agathyst

Hypnotic Pattern is at least B Tier if not higher. Its so strong because of how early you get it. I fought the whole goblin camp bosses one by one without any adds because they were all stuck in the pattern. It makes fights early on very trivial on harder difficulties

Spirit G is not S? Phalar aluve + cull the weak + psionic overload= everyone around you is dead. Its hilarious hearing everyone scream as you run around the map. Ill take the opportunity hits just to make sure everyone gets in on the fun. With luminous armor nobody hits you anyways.

I think bless gotta go lower purely because of that one ring (which you get from Volvo in act 1) that literally applies bless to anyone you heal for a couple rounds

Healing spells are so undervalued in almost every video I see. It is true that you can’t out heal damage in DnD which is represented in BG3. However the added effects that come with healing from gear is insane. Party wide resistance to physical (act1) or blade ward for 2 turns (act3), pulling a party member 2m so they avoid opportunity attacks (act1), automatic death ward after a revive (act3), the literal difference between a character being downed and not. I’ll admit the level 6 spell heal is underwhelming but mass healing word/mass cure wounds are indisputably S tier.

There's also the illithid power share health, where you give 1/2 your HP.. When combined with globe of Invulnerability, YOU do not take the Dmg buy the heal still occurs ..

Bless is S tier early on tactician and honor is a must even later.Paladin can use this no problem and help all the team

Aid isn't temp HP. It increases your HP maximum and stacks with temp HP. It's incredible. Maybe still not S-tier, but very solid A-tier because it stacks with temporary HP like Armor of Agathys or False Life.

hunger of hadar, simply the best CC spell in the fucking game, ... lvl 3 spell slot, concentration, 10 turns. AOE 6m radius. range 18m ... "Creatures within this black sphere are Blinded and take damage at the end of their turn and the start of their turn. inside its Difficult Terrain. Creatures starting their turn in the area take 2d6Damage Cold damage. Creatures ending their turn in the area take 2d6Damage Acid damage." ... its a fucking fireball every 2 turns can be learned by warlock and bard.

@@arne0107 yeah... if ya get your enemmies wet they'll become vulnerable to cold damage of hunger of hadar.and ya can combo with eldritch blast+repeling blast, or other kinda ways to force movement like trowing then inside, thorn whip or thunder wave. ofc you'll need to use it in choke points to get max value of it. I.e. (its just an exemple, you wont get hunger of hadar this early in game.)you're at goblin camp bridge, you hit anyone to start a fight then use hunger o hadar and let them kill themselves trying to reach ya. while you hit 'em with you other companions from long range... and if your enemmies reach ya you can always push 'em back insede... sorry my english is rusty...

@@user-ug9gq7zp9t hunger of Hadar have a higher damage, and it's lvl 3 spell slot instead evard's lvl 4 requirement.. Like I said ya can combo wet condition with hunger of Hadar to amplify the cold damage. You can learn hunger of Hadar before ya even finish act 1. Cuz lvl 3 spell slot means it can be learned at character lvl 5.

Command being in A feels wrong. It is the best control spell in the whole game. Bards will forgo other spell options in magical secrets to choose it. Level 1 spell, no concentration slot, can be used to move enemies around and make them lie prone, imposing advantage for melee strikers. Can be upcast to disable up to 6 people (realistically 5 if you don't wanna blow the 6th slot) for up to 2 turns if you use Meta Magic extended spell, which only costs 1 sorc point. Sure not everyone is going to be able to get maximum use out of it but the builds that can maximise it are easily among the best in the game.

Hypnotic pattern is cc with a massive radius, especially for sorcerers who can careful spell it. Take out most of the enemies, and focus down in any who managed to beat the save. I run it on any caster who can learn it

@@stefenleungyou must not have heard of helm of arcane acuity making most control spells hit for 100% and above 80% for most bosses. Plus level 3 command drop spell made the gith patrol a walk in the park.

I agree with most of this list but fire wall should be on the list above fire ball. You can use it like you use fireball but it sticks around for 10 turns. I abuse the hell out of firewall

I'd Say Bless and Armor of Agathys are Easily S Tier, they carried me through act 1 and 2 in my honor mode playthrough especially AoA on a Abjuration Wizard is just beyond broken

All the summon spells in general are S tier because they can be stacked. Max party of 4? No. 16 of us lmao Then you can hit them all with 6th level Aid and generate like 400+ extra hit points across your entire party. Makes a lot of the fights trivial. Killed acolyte of Myrkul after he attacked once without using busted interactions or one shot builds etc etc. Just gang jumped the dude

You can get Eldritch blast without warlock levels with a few different feats. Also bless is S tier Act 1, A tier Act 2 and B tier Act 3 😂

Hunger of hadar is one of the best cc specs in the game in my opinion. Put it down and the keep pushing enemies back in with eldritch blast
