I still cannot find that one ''active'' theme, when the music just changes, when you land a crit, or overall get advantage. I don't mean that epic version of down by the river, but usually the music that i get after i do a multi attack as Lae'zel. Wonder if it even has a proper name, if anyone knows about which song i am talking about. It's a very short fragment, taking maybe like 20 seconds. I would call it like a ''power play'' or something like that. Anyone can help?

Honestly pretty typical of Larian and I'm not sure why. Broken Shackles from DOS2 was not on the OST for a long time, and that's one of the better songs in the game.

@@Chopstorm. That's typical for a lot of Studios. You only publish a few selected samples of your OSTs publically and keep many of the good stuff for the actual game. So music stealers and such have it harder to steal your work. Same as you don't provide usually a downloadable 3D Model on Artstation as a 3D Designer. Just render images and videos.

The music is variable. The official soundtrack just uses the default version of the songs, but there's different versions of all the combat themes that trigger depending on what happens. Like if one of your characters is downed, that changes the song. Killing an enemy of higher level than you or with a crit is also its own variations. And so on.

@@heramaaroricon4738 doesnt matter, theyre selling the OST for money, so not putting everything there is just ripping off the customer.

@@zlomcio1can't be a hurdy-gurdy since there's a clear legato, even glissando almost in the strings, which would be impossible with a ''pressed notes'' based instrument like the hurdy-gurdy. It really does sound like a Gadulka tho

If I had to guess, the main instrument is a viola on the lower strings played very roughly. You can hear in certain parts the bow popping up and bouncing a little when they change to another string, and that only happens when you are both drawing heavily on the string and playing quickly. You can also hear at parts throughout the song a higher pitched screechy noise, and that's usually achieved by playing below the bridge.

But if by overly orchestrated you mean music like from dark souls where it's all overblown with choir and messy instruments with no care for volume control, then yes I agree over orchestrated music isn't that pleasant. But fromsoft also made the bloodborne ost and that is much better orchestrated and cleanly performed than the dark souls series ost. Just making sure you're differentiating between orchestral music and over orchestrated music. Because calling music like this better than orchestral epic pieces as a whole is a load of shit.
