Of course it is possible. Best way to do it would be to find accomodation away from the main tourist areas and use a motorbike, electric bike or bicycle to get around. All accommodation in tha main tourist areas has a premium price. Example if looking at sanur stay on the other side of the bypass or even look at renon. I laugh at what most of these people on youtube publish talking BS and exaggerate everything just to get clicks and views so they make more money, most of them have no idea whatsoever and are just teaming up with agents to use examples, agents are in business to make money and do not just work on commission they add a lot to the initial price also because they know most western people have no idea of the true prices for accommodation in Bali. Also food in the main tourist areas is so much higher because rents on all the properties are so much higher, as soon as you get away from the main tourist areas things become a lot cheaper. Kubu Doble has simple & clean rooms on the other side of the bypass but still very close to the sindhu area of Sanur. Some local accommodations can be quite nice for 2-3 million per month.
