Some long-form GoPro footage of baling two small fields of first cut hay on June 7th, 2021 in Conway, MA. These were the last two small fields of a larger batch, and figured it was a good chance to take the GoPro for a spin. Usually we bale in third gear, but due to windrow thickness and the up/down slope on the second field, second gear ruled the day. But the yield still kept the bales flying!
Our baler is a Massey Ferguson 124, but retrofitted with a hydraulic-drive New Holland model 70 thrower. Tractor is a Massey Ferguson 275.
We do about 45 acres of mixed-grass hay, all in small square bales :)

A nice little system you have there and an excellent demonstration on how to use it ,I was surprised how well it worked in the awkward shaped fields .

Thanks! Yeah, it’s pretty versatile. Works well in the bigger fields too 😊. The little ones become a pain, but when there’s nice grass…

Good to know a 275 is working hard in 3rd, I'd have thought it would run it fine.

Oh for sure - I’ll bale lighter stuff up through fourth. Just a lot of hay in these windrows, plus some slope

That baler does good! I have a 120 and it almost never miss ties a bale. I’ve always liked Massey square balers myself. You have done nice looking hay!

Thanks! Yeah, I’ve been checking out your videos too! Definitely love that line of balers. Just did over 1000 this week and it handled it all like a champ 😊

Lots of hay left in the field sad!!!!
@windrowfarm
@windrowfarm 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it bummed me out too. I was in a bit of a rush (rain that night) and also fighting ground moisture so had the pickup one notch higher than usual, so I sadly did miss some. Unfortunately not worth an extra “clean up” raking - only a couple bales worth of hay left, if that, but usually I don’t leave as much behind 😊

I bale hay without earmuffs, I know it's not the best for my long term hearing, but alot of times, you can hear a small issue or problem, and fix it ,before it becomes a large problem or a major issue, your hearing get a tuned to how proper operating equipment and machinery is supposed to sound.

I know that feeling. I can hear all of the thrums and nuances pretty well even with them - but I say the same thing to folks who ask why I don't listen to music or podcasts. I want to know the *instant* something starts to sound wrong 😅

@@ronaldduwaynebrown8071 totally get it! 😊. (That’s an impressive amount of acreage! Whereabouts?). Totally different game here in New England - we’re lucky if we can string three sunny (or even rainless) days together, and the ground was also a bit damp. It’s rare for first cut that we double up windrows, even with a side delivery rake (I use a New Holland 256) or else it doesn’t dry enough 😊
