Animal plastics is way better. PVC and very sturdy. You can choose between white or black, glass sliding doors or plexiglass swing doors. I paid like $250 for 4 foot long by 2 feet deep by 1 foot tall with sliding glass doors with a key lock for the glass doors. Height isn’t necessary for ball pythons.

is it not best practice to put the heat pad under the bottom of the cage or between something to avoid the possibility of the snake burning itself ?
@UltimateExoticsReptiles
@UltimateExoticsReptiles 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Karl. That is a good point, the heat pad we using in this video is a 9watt heat pad that only reaches around 34 degrees Celsius but there are warmer heat pads out there and that would then be a good idea to do. An even better option which is a bit more costly is to attached it to a temperature controller which will automatically turn the heat pad off when it reaches a certain temperature.

Hi, if you have a glass viv you should put it under, however, if you have a wooden viv they make glass heat mat holders (vivexotic make a really good one that fits exo terra heat mats) that prevent the heat harming the wood and snake. I would always recommend a thermostat though, a standard on/off thermostat can be very cheap and can potentially save your animal's scales :)

@nightinggale6470
@nightinggale6470 2 жыл бұрын
Simple: don’t use a heat mat, they’re not a good heat source anyway. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

@nightinggale6470
@nightinggale6470 2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that ribbon snakes are often wild caught, make sure you get them from a reputable source. For the warm side for corn snakes: use a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat and a T5 tube UVB bulb (either an Arcadia shadedweller or 6% bulb, or zoo med 5.0 bulb). The basking spot should get to 85-90 (measured by a temperature gun), and should be 7-9” from the UVB. Slate or slate tile is good for the basking spot. Make sure they have a warm hide as well. I’d also obscure the basking spot with decor such as fake plants so the snake doesn’t feel exposed while basking. Provide cryptic basking opportunities as well (exposing part of their body while staying hidden). The same goes for ribbon snakes.

@nightinggale6470

Yes. They need light during the day for a day/night cycle. For heat, a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option during the day, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Heat rocks are not a safe heat source, they have a tendency to overheat and burn/cook reptiles. Heat mats aren’t a good heat source either, overhead heating is best. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option during the day, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. Ceramic heat emitters are good for nighttime heat.

Ball pythons are basking snakes so they need a heat bulb not a matt? And you don't want the tank humid with that substrate
@FlashPaperGrind
@FlashPaperGrind 3 жыл бұрын
Yes they do need a basking spot, but a lot of people think that means using heat rocks (you should never use that for a BP). Ideally a heat lamp will work fairly well when they come out to bask (which is only at certain times of the day and not for long periods of time - usually early morning/late afternoon). Heating pads are easier to use for beginners, especially since most wooden vivs are not setup for attaching heat lamps + bulb guards. A glass viv is normally the best bet for a heat lamp since most have a top section where one could be fitted. As for humidity, peat moss is a really good humidity regulator and since it dries out it will not create excessive humid conditions (provided you don't use too much). It is also a good idea to use the moss to raise the humidity when they are shedding.

not trying to be rude but Yes as I was watching the video I did notice # mistakes made (at least from everything I have read and look up. as mention by other people that commented. I did also see that the foil heater was on the inside of the enclosure (should be under the enclosure) outside of it)to stop the snake from burning itself . #2 Not running a thermostat for temperature control ( to make sure snake doesn't overheat and warm side of enclosure stays within range). #3 is there is no hide for the cool side of tank for the snake to go in. (helps with making the snake feel more secure and safe). You do have a nice enclose though and a beautiful snake. !
@UltimateExoticsReptiles

Hi Jason, thank you for your feedback. Yes I agree it will be the best option to add a temperature controller to your heat pad in order to ensure it does not get too hot. We did have a naturalistic hide on the cooler end under the plant for the snake to go into :) Thanks man, all the best!
@FlashPaperGrind
@FlashPaperGrind 3 жыл бұрын
#1 Heat pads cannot go UNDER a wooden vivarium - they go inside and under a piece of glass/tile. #2 You do not need a temperature controller, although it is highly recommended, if you pay attention to the temperatures in the tank. I have 3 thermometers in my tanks as well as temperature controllers just incase the controllers become faulty.

This setup is horrible!!! NEVER put the heating mat inside the tank it goes underneath. The temp probe is supposed to go directly on the mat because that’s where the snake is going to be. Don’t use anything dusty for substrate it’ll cause respiratory issues. This video overall is just terrible!!
