Yeah it was a bit ridiculous, 4 separate rolls of 6 for scatter. Absolutely bonkers!

I once took a Mordor war catapult into my buddies fiefdom list. I tried to warn him that he should spread out even though he's a death ball army, maybe go for the side objectives so he wouldn't be so clumped up. But no, he was certain. So turn 1 i shot Imrahil off his horse and killed a small blob of pikeman and he scooped. This here is the heart of the issue with siege engines in Middle earth: familiarity and player perception. I imagine someone will get bodied one time and then get online and be mad about them rather than seeing that there are numerous ways to play around the engines. in fact they demand to be played around. What does your list have that can deal with one? The scenario above was both of our first times experiencing siege engines so yeah getting blown out is kind of expected but i imagine if we had grinded out the siege engine experience for a couple more games we could have found them to be good but manageable

They definitely add an interesting element (and challenge!) to the game. I agree that you just have to find ways to counter them. Can be suuuuper annoying when they one shot your best unit though! 😅

The result of my recent "Monster and Men" tournament, in which a modified Mordor Troll/Ent was added to each army, yielded a kill count of 92 kills by 14 Trolls/Ents in 28 games. It follows that a Troll model that kills more than 3 models in each game delivers an above-average performance. ... Play AoHD the said, it will be fun the said ... and it's gone xD

Haha that is crazy isn't it! I really think that they need a boost, monstrous charge could do it. Its crazy to think that a single man sized model can stop a charging troll.

@@dicedrinksanddadjokes men size .... nasty little hobbit! The victory of the tournament, was an alliance between Lothlórien and the Shire ;-). In the last tournament, I buffed the monsters with magic resistance and an independent hero profile of 1/1/1. At the end of September, I will organze the second age of Monster Men Tournament, where all monsters use the Troll Chieftain profile from Baradur (on the good side, it's an Ent with the same profile). I have also considered buffing the monster with modified 'Relentless Advance,' to facilitate the positioning and movement of the monster, the issue simply lies in its large base. Also have to say that when each army has a monster, it's a strategy to duel monster vs monster to gain as much time as possible to play the scenario.

My only experience was 2 irons hills balista, who danger closed and rolled 1 on scatter quite a lot. I was running 12 cavalry so didnt really mind.

Should they be allowed? Sure But you have a better chance of winning without them. Very few people used field artillery in ancient times successfully out on the field. Alexander and Julius Caesar being two that I know of. I don’t think even Hannibal bothered with them. Just about everyone else used them for sieges.

Alright mate, quick question. The rules state you dont need direct LOS only from a fellow model somewhere on the board, so how do you determine in the ways?

Draw an imaginary line between the ballista and the target. If that line intersects anyone or anything than generally it’ll be an in the way.

You posted day 2, sweet. Get to see some more of your sweet uruk carnage. Even if it was a grindfest, you still made a very enjoyable video! As for ballistas, while I havent played a huge amount of games I never found them as OP as online says, probably from bad rolls. My worst game with them, they killed a gondor ranger and thats it. As you said, they feel okay but not great. For 130 points you could take a bunch of crossbows or another troll!

Yeah I've had some shocker games with them. At the end of the day you'll have a hard time if you're rolling bad dice.

Great video even though it got nerfed and rerolls wont be that effective in turnaments ever again. :D It looks like your berserker shouldn't have died though. You don't need a roll if the model is as tall as the cliff it wanna get down from.

Siege engines are fine for the game, only AoHD is a nasty one and the old Iron Hills one was very nasty. Now with the point nerf for Iron Hills and the latest FAQ for AoHD all is fine. I think the siege engines add a fun chaoticness to the game but you can power game them. Your list could have been waay nastier, replace the troll with crossbows and we got a truely terrible list (could also give all your captains crossbows if you are a truly terrible human being). So al in all the player chooses to make lists that are no fun to play against, no fault lies with the siege engines imo.

Tbf aohd is still the best shooting list. It balances the list with the nerf. Maybe you only take 2 instead of 3 now but imo it is still in the 5 best army lists right now.

I really dont get all the hate seige weapons get in this game. This LL is my main army for mesbg and ppl have given me feels bads for bringing them. This is my favorite army in the game and the balistas are a major part of it. If uber power heros can cleave through most of my army why isnit dumb for me to have a big bow to shoot at yours. The balistas aren' impossible or even overly difficult to deal with. Ive played against plenty of people whove nullified them and others who didnt and still won and im by no means a bad player. I recently played a game post nerf and it made an impact but didnt make bringing them pointless. They made slightly less than their points back in kills. I wish they wouldnt have nerfed them though. In my experience they werent OP.

Question about them. Can they only fire in 180° in front of the model, or can they fire 360° around the model. In other words can they only shoot forward? I'm used to current 40k where directional shooting isn't a thing.

@@yesmilord2350 I don’t think there is a specific rule saying that you can’t shoot 360 but it does look a little silly.
