This is a sohar sung by the late Ramdehal Ramnarine, also known as Balnain. It was recorded in the 1960s or 1970s at the birthday of Sewnarain Benie in Nickerie. Sohars are sung on birth and birthday occasions. The drummer in this recording is Babooram.

It seems our forefathers came from the Bhojpur belt, mostly from what's now UP and Bihar, but some from north Bengal. People are now looking for their roots.

@@karanmenon665 Hello Karan, I am Dr. Dhar Ramdehal, the eldest grandson of Ustad Ramdehal Ramnaraine, (Baal Nain), Ashton's Cha Cha (Uncle) and Yes we are still connected to the original Bhoujpuri musical culture.

@@karanmenon665 not alot. just words. my hindi is better than bhojp uri. however i do like the language and i have friends in india who help me. i understand a bit of the bhojpuri songs i sing and so

Balnain Ji is from port mourant, corentyne, berbice. He used to sing with my Dad, Sadu Ramoutar from rosehall town

Vivek this is true. Our Aaji (wife of Baal Nain) shared many wonderful stories of these great souls singing together in the 1950s and 1960s. There were also Songwriter Ramudit, singer Seupaul, Kruda Bush, Harihar, and your dad.

@@dharramdehal7446 Thanks for the reply. At portmourant we had Uncle Tilak who was a very good Sitar player , and his brother Swar. At rosehall we Also Paltu Das and his brothers Bharat Das, the were living opposite the lemonade factory , the street is now called independence avenue
