I can't thank you enough for taking the time and effort to put this video together. I was born in this area back in the fifties and remember so much of what you have shown. However, it is also one of the saddest videos in this genre I have watched due to the decline of the areas shown. The demolition or decline of some wonderful architecture and its thoughtless, cheap, unimaginative replacements. The lack of greenery from its heyday to the disgraceful amount of litter and baron appearence of a once delightful area that I grew up in. It is so sad that sections of society have evolved into not only disrespecting their surroundings but also the lack of respect in replacing buildings of character and artisan craftsmanship with characterless 'boxes'. Please keep up your great work, and thank you again.

Thank you John Cregg for watching the video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The area has definitely a different vibe to it. Some derelict Georgian terraced houses were demolished at the junction with Highgate Rd. I was hoping they would have been restored to their former glory... to no avail. I hope to make more similar videos around Balsall heath in the future. Take care.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all well & safe. As you can see I changed the title of this series because my style has evolved from the strictly postcard videos to include extract of movies, old videos, etc. So, I chose instead a more conventional (search-friendly) title. I hope you enjoy the video. If you want more then & now videos around Balsall Heath, Highgate, please do let me know.

Thank you for the many layers of effort you have put into this and the rest of the series of Birmingham. Fascinating history of which is still a great city. Gone through ups and downs but a rich history beautifully documented in your series.

Great video! Everywhere you go you see glimpses of really beautiful stuff, some of which is still here and well looked after. People have stopped taking pride in in their surroundings, it’s almost no longer part of ‘the culture’. Just look at how much rubbish there is everywhere in so many of those modern shots. Buildings get old need demolishing sure, or maybe some road infrastructure improvements are inevitable. But a better job could have been made of the buildings that replaced them. Abandonment of the trams I think inevitably isolated the community from the rest of the city somewhat. There’s something about teams that make them more ‘upmarket’ than buses. There area is in a prime location so close to the city centre so maybe in future decades it will see a revival.

Fascinating video Joseline. So very well researched and presented. Love the history of some of Birmingham's Cinemas. The addition of actual motion picture footage genius.

Thank you Bostingblues. Guess what? I realised yesterday - after the video was published - that I had a 5sec footage of the Imperial Cinema. I totally forgot about it until after I published the video...😩 But that's life! 🙂

you picture of Brighton rd post office time:4.52 is not 1980, but more like 1990 to 1995 the Lidl supermarket was not there but a row of shops/houses with an entry to the rear where Mr Singh operated a small vehicle repair garage, next to them was the Shell Petrol station, with workshops car sales, car hire and of Course petrol and diesel, which was still there in 1989, next to the garage was the continuation of houses/shop down to Homer Street.
