Between 650 and 680, the Kingdom of the Franks was led by Balthild's clan : her protector Erchinoald, het husband CLovis II and their children. Yet, all of this was far from obvious because Balthild... used to be a slave. However, her cleverness, her faith and her mastering of social norms helped her in making her way to the top of the kingdom and to the status of Catholic saint.
This video has been corrected by Justine CUDORGE, French PhD student in medieval history, whose work focuses on feminine figures and power in merovingian times.
