Today the guys are talking about the Francis Scott Key bridge and whether the accident...wasn't really. We also talk about the ongoing Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Israel gearing up for an offensive in Rafah in southern Gaza and how Israel is quickly alienating itself from the international community.

Hi, gents! Kim Kipling here. Great to see you all, enjoying the new channel. As you know, I was a USN Surface Warfare Officer. I've watched the video like everyone else in America. In my judgement, there is virtually ZERO chance that this was a planned, targeted attack. Merchant ships get little maintenance; the least their owners think they can get away with giving them. MV DALI had been having electrical problems pierside while in the port; something to do with refrigerated containers drawing too much power and tripping breakers. The video shows her losing total electrical power a couple of times just before the incident, while in the channel. She lost power, and therefore rudder control. Her Pilot had the presence of mind to send a radio warning, allowing some traffic control, keeping some vehicles from going on to the bridge and saving some lives. Heavy smoke visible in the video tells me she reversed engines and applied maximum throttle. She dropped her port anchor, appropriately in this situation, trying to stop. She was making about 8 knots, and this was too little too late. She impacted the support piers of the bridge and the rest is history. Despite conspiracy theories to the contrary, Occam's Razor says the most likely explanation is the simplest explanation. In my judgement, this was a maritime accident, NOT a terrorist attack. All that said, don't think for a minute that terrorists all over the globe aren't going to school on what happened and thinking about how they could replicate this as an attack method. Scary reality is, they could.

I would point out the 90's New Orleans RiverWalk incident involving a container ship. That was a horrible accident, Same scenario it lost power & rutter narrowly missing the Greater New Orleans Bridge over the Mississippi River. People are to quick to make a narrative of terrorism these days.

First off, I'm always looking into things, and I agree with this assessment. It will take strong evidence to convince me this was any sort of an attack, and not simply a problem with maintenance and 'sweeping issues under the rug', as it where.

With 30 years at sea and 8 years in command I fully agree with you Kim. Accidents are few and far between but momentum is bitch and on a big ship like that to try and stop it quickly even at the best of times is almost impossible. A total power failure in restricted waters is the one thing you don't wish upon everybody. If you look at the funnel smoke there seems to have been a wind as well which would have assisted in pushing her to Starboard. Evergreen stuck in the Suez Canal two years ago, different circumstances, is a pretty good indication of the amount of forces involved.

Hey guys, your podcast has become my favorite in a very short period of time. Your highly informative, no 🐂💩 delivery is welcomed in today’s podcast world full of too much 🐂💩 You have great brevity whilst providing incredible insight and using military humor. Such humor is paramount for serious discussions, especially ones with this type of subject. Too often one gets paralysis by analysis and it becomes hard to juxtapose so much information. You’re doing extraordinary work and once again, I want to give you thanks. Cheers

Andy is a bit off in his comments about other naval support in Red Sea. The French navy was escorting vessels with any sort of french affiliation (one french national/flagged in a former french colony/ the ship owned/leased through some proxy by a french company or for that matter another european country that asked nicely while the US Navy was gettint their shit together and trying to stand up the whole Prosperity Gurardian framework instead of getting after it and building the plane in flight. Also the Indian Navy has literally parachuted commandos in and taken control of a pirate vessel the MV Ruen (the Somalis that have been serving essentially as Houthi privateers). The Indian navy also served as first responders and assisted in the damage control of the True Confidence saving remaining 20 some crew (with the 3 fatalities from the crew the first fatalities of this). Theres more to the maritime mission than throwing missiles that cost $7 figures at drones and missiles that cost $6 or less figures.

I'm sure that's comforting to the families of those two SEALs who just drowned. India has certainly done her share, but let's not diminish the contribution of the United States Navy, who's providing the lion's share of the work, danger and expense.

They have identified a vehicle with two bodies. They cannot continue the search because the currents are making the debris unstable. It's now a salvage operation.

The ship was WAY off course long before it hit the bridge, bcuz it was nowhere near the middle of the channel where it should have been. Unless the ship lost power and propulsion LONG before it allided and the current took it directly at the bridge support, it just seemed very odd that it wasn’t in the middle of the channel to clear the underside of the bridge. I did not see a pilot boat nearby either, which should be heading out into the channel to pick up the harbor pilot from the container ship.

The person piloting the ship was the local pilot. Ship crews do not normally pilot their ship in and out of ports. Local specialized pilots familiar with the port are at the helm.

People don't even have to neccessarily believe in the sensationalized stories to push them forward, as (whether it's for the dopamine hit of getting your name attached to a story or actual ad revenue) we live in a click-based economy.

Having plenty of insight on the function of most current infrastructure, it would be no surprise to me if this where a maintenance issue and nothing else. I hav plenty of experience with maintenance, and people management and I can tell you myself that neglect is a common occurrence, far more common than terrorism and even more common than the fantasy of someone hacking a ship in order to hit a bridge and close a port. Accidents are more likely than anything else, especially given the ship in question. This particular ship has allegedly slammed itself into a port once already.

The Dutch have 4 state of the art air defence and control frigates (6050 tons so actually more of a destroyer) of the Seven Provinces class, as we speak the HNLMS F-803 Tromp (NOOOO NOT TRUMP!!!) arrived in the Red Sea to participate in Operation Aspides. Anyway they're being updated even better radars, new OtoMelara 127/64 guns extra goalkeepers, extra VLS with Tomahawks etc, etc. And the new follow-on class is in development to stay on that edge and maintain top of the line Air Defence capability. Also France(2),Germany(3), Denmark(3) and Italy(2) have similar very capable Air Defence Destroyers very similar to the Royal Navy's Type 45 Daring class(6).

Where is international community in the Red Sea? USA either doesn’t want them there or can’t get them to assist. USA current administration is arrogant and incompetent. Also, perhaps other nations being there would not be of help, and not capable.

It was no accident. Ships have set courses like airplanes so "accidents" like that don't happen. For a cargo ship that big to make it far enough inland it had to be on purpose. It was either hacked and signal jammed or it was the plan for it to crash with all the class 9 hazardous materials and the containers be "breached". Accidents like that don't just happen. Not without the help from someone. Plus it hit the main pillar that supported the bridge and made it stand so the bridge had no chance.. America the land of a crooked government. America is falling.
