A semester's worth of perspective lessons in one video... Where have you been all my life????

I mean, there was no information on how to measure in any of those perspective systems in order to obtain the same measurement of repeated patterns like windows or sections on buildings and what not. No talk on ellipses and arches or how to do tiled floors to help with scale (although this last one is fairly easy digitally, but if you want an accurate tile dimension, then you have to be more precise). These are the things that are hard and tedious with perspective. What they mentioned is the very basics of perspective. Still an informative video for beginners non the less, as they're all things you should know.

1:48 is what adds more to me, what I am taking from the video as new to me. And I think is a very neat trick, as vectors can be out of the canvas, which is one of the things that is a limit if done with raster tools. The whole handling of it is practical and fast, also.

For those who have downloaded the newest version of ps, you can have a similar result by selecting "fixed size" then enter 1% in star number and select "from the center", in the gear icon. And after that you have to enter 90 in the square right after a # in a polygon, the last square seems to be unimportant. Idk if this is the most effective way to do it but it works ! Sorry if the settings aren't named like that for you, I have the french version of ps x)

Hi BAM animation dudes! So almost a a year ago when I first started watching your videos, I was in a slump because my foundation skills weren't that great. Watching videos like this really helped me a lot and I applied these tips to help enhance my portfolio. Last week I got my first freelance job from a studio and just wanted to say thanks for making very helpful videos like this one! I just finished taking a perspective class, so it was nice to see how you applied these tools as well. So to anyone else that is reading this comment, practice these skills , it is very helpful!! Really great to see a perspective video, so many people jump in and draw art/background without being able to block out basic shapes in perspective which hurts them greatly. Also I recommend toonboom harmony/storyboard as they both now have perspective tools that you can snap your cursor too, as well as clip studio paint which also has native perspective tools. If you only work in photoshop you can also get lazy nezumi (paid plugin) which has built in perceptive tools as well. A few other perspective tips that could be covered in future videos: center of object by drawing an X from corner to corner (if you need something in the center). Scaling things in perspective (say a person up close scaled size wise into the background, or repeating objects). I highly recommend Perspective for comicbook artists by David Chelsea as well! Happy anniversary :D!

the thing is with drawing and painting with/without reference to a real life scene, you can decide and alter how true you want it to be to reality (eg. like in color and value, proportion, variation, cropping etc.), even if you're keeping it within realism, and especially if the changes would yield a "better" visual design, or is more appropriate for what youre trying to say with the image. In an effort to be helpful I'd like to add something important that didn't get covered in this excellent video. This confused me a lot so I assume others will have been confused too. If you have a simple one point perspective (applies to 2 point etc) only objects that are parallel to each other will share that vanishing point. So for instance imagine a checkered board floor in one point perspective. Then add a couple of boxes on that floor that are lined up to each other and the floor grid. Those all share the same vanishing point. Now imagine you turn one of the boxes slightly. That box will now have a new vanishing point (probably 2 points assuming it's on an angle to the camera). Since in reality things aren't always lined up parallel to each other (things are turned in different directions), it's likely to have a drawing with many vanishing points, though the main structure of the shot will be simpler as you described. Hope that is not too confusing. Thanks!

Another excellent video. Requires rewatching to soak everything up. I had never even thought of using photoshop's free transform tool the way you show it... It seems so obvious now. And I had never thought about making a bajillion lines to start with... I'd always just drawn the ones that directly connect to whatever I was drawing. These sorts of tips are invaluable and I've not seen them anywhere else. Seeing this makes me sad that there aren't more channels like this. It's rare to get someone(s) who is working in their industry, is good at it, takes time to learn new things, AND takes time to teach things. The only other guy I can think of is AVE. (Arduino vs Evil) In my case, I feel that I've gotten back more than twice what I've put out in terms of knowledge, when it comes to my tutorials. What a glorious compilation. I have learned more of this subject than in my 8 years of art education. It was brilliantly edited, so it was very enjoyable to watch too, thank you so much for your effort. You make internet great.

Oh my gosh, as someone who was going broke paying for Skillshare and PluralSight and art books with Amazon every week, this is like a LITERAL God send. Like, God came down from the heavens and pointed at this video from over my shoulder and said "Behold, proof of my love" with a resounding thunderclap from above. I'm going to watch this over and over and over again and try dozens of backgrounds! I have Photoshop for photo-editing and both Clip Studio Paint and Paint Tool Sai for drawing, but I'm going to try my hand at drawing in Photoshop...Or more likely, try to make these grids in CSP XD I haven't figured out how to get my wacom pen to work well with Photoshop yet. Thank you so much for sharing such critical knowledge with us lowly, poor artistic souls! You truly show us that... ...not all heroes wear capes.

btw with the new photoshop update for creating the 1 point grid, you have to click the gear icon and then change the star ratio to 1%, everything else that they mentioned it the same though

I always go back to this video cuz it saved my life lol. How exactly perspective grids works always had a hard time "clicking" in my head like yes of course I knew what it was in art, but I couldn't comprehend how to use it, even with tutorials (Besides like basic boxes lol) But then I found this specific video that displays it in a scene and with different styles/examples like thanks yall 😭

This video just made my night. I've recently switched to digital art and I was struggling with finding the vanishing point again when I moved them off the live area each time I made a new guide line. Having a vector controlled VP and GL is amazing and so helpful. Thank you!
