Just had to test a vertical mount for the AMS unit as I have limited bench space but plenty of height space.

The whole reason I haven't bought one is the horizontal space they take up. You solved that in a clever way, nice work.

There are stl files to print new AMS mounts brackets That you can find online that make it take up less depth as well. I have just installed them on mine, saves about 6 inches in desk top depth.

Thank you so much for this. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this idea and that I was able to see it works before I make a similar leap. I have the A1 Mini on pre-order now just waiting for it to ship. I've been tinkering with the idea of making a plexi enclosed shelf above mine to house both the AMS and room for storage of 8 or so more spools as a dry box for filament storage and run the bowden tubes out the bottom. I've previously used a large plastic storage container similarly with both a small peltier dehumidifier and silica desiccant that keeps humidity consistently at under 30%, so I'm looking forward to freeing up some room in the shop and keeping the spools on the AMS dry at the same time. Now I just need to get a working poop chute to a trash can below sorted out for it.

The poop seems to fly all over so good luck catching it all. I ordered a send cable for the AMS and will experiment with extending it so that the AMS can be right side up when mounted above the A1 Mini.

I would love to see a Big Loo robot printed in a walking model. the original was the best Christmas present I ever received. Ten bucks was a lot of money back then and I was sure I wouldn't get it.

AWESOME! I have one on order and have been planning to try exactly this as soon as I get mine. Great to see that it will work.

I ordered a replacement cable for the AMS, that I can then modify to be longer so the unit can be rotated. That will make the spool numbers easyer to read.

Very good solution! Brilliant! Every other reviewer points out that it takes up more 'floorspace' than an X1 with the AMS-Lite next to the printer. By the fourth reviewer I got so fed up that I told him "Mount it above the printer : the spools are locked on their spindles! Are you a maker or just a printer ?" OK, you already know this, but the filament tangle detection will detect a tangle when the hub is pulled down to the printer because the filament is harder to pull into the printhead : a magnet inside the hub will then come closer to a sensor and detect the tangle (it's in the starter manual online) so you do need to keep bends in the tubes.

Yup. Looks nice. Big fan of going vertical for storage. You know if you cut that cable mid-section you could add any sort of plugs to extend it. Or, staggering the joins, you could do an almost invisible soldering joint using heat shrink. If you want, I'll do a video demo to show you how, but you probably already know how to do it.
@Robothut
@Robothut 10 ай бұрын
Yes, cutting and extending the cable was my first thought as well. But since it works as is I may hold off incase someone comes up with the actual connectors that were used or a extension cable.

Great solution. I thought of setting the AMS behind the A1 (my table has 80cm) but this is so much better. Also an enclosure would be more easy to build (I have some acrilic panels from an old shower cabins door, so small but long). Quite sad the maximum temperature of the bed is only 80°C, because with this modification and an enclosure, the printer would be nice for ABS else.

I just recently added my A1 mini through the Bambu Slicer that way when I send the file through a phone hot spot that is one way if you have a decent internet connection. You mentioned you did not have a phone to run off of my Iphone would not let me register the new printer. That is why I tried to go through the Bambu Slicer. You can find it under Device tab above and go from there. Once I did that my Bambu Handy was finally able to see the printer. Not sure why it did not work but now it does. I have never connected through the LAN method. Ohh one more thing I am going to order me a replacement 4 plug cord and then cut and extend it. Also there is a person who posted on his version of the mount via the wall the 4 pin connectors off of Amazon. I do not know if they will work but I did order a set I guess I will give that a try too but thats going to be a few weeks off since I will have to wait for the parts. Let me find the link and post. Thank you for your video.

I've been thinking about buying this printer because of the speed. I am curious how it prints functional parts. I watched a review video on a channel called 247printing where they printed a very tall part in vase mode. He showed the Z axis movement while printing at the top of the part. It showed considerable movement up and down. He measured it as one millimeter. This leads me to believe any unevenness in the bed will be repeated all through the printed part. That might be a problem on larger functional parts. I've only had printers with manual bed leveling so I'm not sure how the mesh bed leveling works. Thanks, Rick

I am working on a speed / quality test video right now. I have printed 30 mechanical parts for a robot project and so far the parts are perfect and print in 1/3 the time of my PRUSA MK3s with the same 0.2 layer height setting.

@@Robothut That's very encouraging. I really want a faster printer. I would probably get the multi-color add on since it's only available as a package now. You can't buy just the printer alone at this time. Most of the 3d printer reviews seem to aimed at people who use their printers for non mechanical prints. Looking forward to your test video. Thanks, Rick

I was curious if you could just use longer PTFE tubing and mount it on a shelf above the a1?
@Robothut
@Robothut 10 ай бұрын
Yes, but you would have to make a new ANS cable extender or lengthen the one that is there.
