Welcome to Bamford Rose's new workshop dedicated to the rebuild and repair of Aston Martin engines.
We fully repair and rebuild the V8 Vantage 4.3 and 4.7L engines. Also the V12 engines spanning the generation 1 Gaydon era cars: DB9, DBS, V12Vantage, Virage, Rapide, V12Vantage S, Rapide S, Vanquish, and the heritage DB7 and Vanquish models.
Done properly and professionally, engine rebuilding is better conducted as a completely separate and stand-alone activity to the main vehicle workshop. This is because engine build shops need facilities such as wash and clean areas for build, which most vehicle workshops struggle to adequately accommodate.

Mike, I've been watching your videos for the past month or so, especially on DB9s as research. I don't own one yet, but I really value your insights, expertise and recommendations prior to potentially making that leap in the future. Good to know upfront as I'm very much the 'take preventative action' and proper servicing type of driver, which I've done with all my cars. Thank you for the clarity and no-holds-barred explanations - I'm soaking it up!

totally agree ,, trouble is 20k in an engine on a 30k car does not a 50k car make. Seen it with Range Rovers and Mk4 Discovery s ,, and now its 911s . Some customers have tough choices ahead.

These videos, Bamford rose, and Mike's immense vol. of knowledge, experience, expertise, n the fact u can ABSOLUTELY trust everythin he says! The man was literally present/responsible in designing/developing the engines himself! They're the only Co. making true Aston upgrades of AMAZING quality n w/real results. I am 1 who CANNOT leave my car stock, an orig wasnt gonna buy 1 due to lack of avail perf parts. Bamford Rose is the SOLE REASON I bought my V8V, instead of the CarreraS, w/out any hesitation PERIOD. Amazing parts u can count on w/real results, top quality n at very fair prices. Their upgrades r cheaper or equal2 comparable upgrades for many other Manufacturers cars(their headers for ex. r cheaper than most euro v8's out there. The Audi RS4 or v8 M3s are far more expensive even tho they're far more common an way cheaper cars! Bamford Rose made modifying my dream car possible, affordable, an even more exciting than I ever dreamed. HANDS DOWN Bamford Rose FTW, the obvious an only real choice for ur Aston Martin's needs!!!

@@BamfordRosesounds like the same issue Toyota MR2s had. I had my MR2's primary cats removed when I bought it at 90,000 miles. Just involved a good whack with a hammer and chisel to remove them from the header 😮. Seems the Aston solution is a little more 'sophisticated' 😂. I'm researching DB9s before I buy one so this and videos you have done are essential. Thanks so much for the effort you put into these.

On the two pin injector V12’s, I’d imagine replacing the injector wiring with twisted pair screened cable would go some way to reducing unwanted induced stray voltage and RF interference. Thanks for the heads up. Another future modification now added to the list 😏

All i can say is my DB9 is serviced at one of the UKs top independents every year according to manufacturers specs and, if anything is wrong with it then it is correctly repaired by a caring professional. It definitely doesn't get a £99 service from Joe blogs . I knew when I bought the car nearly 5 years ago it would not be cheap to run and that was taken in to account as to whether or not I could afford an Aston. Look after the car and it will look after you.

Mike, thanks for the explanation of the 4.7l V8 big end bearing issue. Is it true that late in the production cycle (around 2016) a new/different bearing was introduced as AML hadn´t quite got the random engine failures under control? Any further knowledge which engine or chassis No.s onwards feature this revised bearing?

Are you saying a v12 Aston engine is only good for 100k. I've had jaguar v12 with over 250k on with no problems. I've serviced my v12 from 70k, its now done over 100k with no problems. I use recommended oil and Aston filters.

Excellent video again, many thanks! I own a 03/2001 DB7 V12 Vantage (manual) and the engine has what sounds very much like that dreaded tick that you present in some of your video clips. My question: does the tick of my engine necessarily have to be that dreaded engine tick that costs a fortune to fix? Or could the tick be something else much cheaper to fix? Many thanks, SM

Hi. the noise on your '7 could be valvetrain so less severe and easier fix, but unless listening to it, i'd not be able to tell / advise

@@BamfordRose Thank you very much, Mike, for your response! It is very helpful indeed because it means that I do not necessarily have to spend 20K Euro to have the issue fixed. So, there is hope that it's not the dreaded tick. But of course, I need to have this properly checked by Aston Martin or a specialist here in Germany. Many thanks again! Best regards, SM

Nitric oxide** So everyone knows, while Mike's mentioning the v12's primary cats issue explanation he meant to say NITRIC OXIDE(NOX gases) NOT nitrous oxide. So NO ur car's engine, nor do ANY others, produce/have NO² within the spent exhaust gasses.

Any suggestions of how to avoid the ingestion into the primary cats if the laws of the country you live in does not permit any removal or modification of any part of the exhaust system including cats?

Leave the manifold & cat housing looking standard, just cut out then reweld cat housing. No one will be the wiser and you still pass emissions

Michael, Will BR be making new pistons, rods and billet crank 7.1 or 7.2 conversion engines? We have previously built a few 11 meter boats with Lambo V-12s as one offs. Thinking a pair of AM-29, 7+ litre. Lower rev limit not a problem. Not looking for all high end power. We live and work in the southeast US. Thank you.

The pair of AM V12's installed to a boat would sound like heaven. Repairs need to be done correctly, but keeping costs to a minimum. What you mention is more an upgrade that few road cars will want, but, if there was demand for such a build, we would look at it. Needs a significant liner change though, which I know an engineering company is researching now, so could be on the cards.
