Once a doctor asked me to eat yellow fruits/veggies for their skin rebuilding properties so i asked if bananas count and he asked me “Do you eat the skin?” ... NOW I know the answer is YES, it’s possible!!! Which makes sense because when green banana is boiled long enough you can eat the skin to add more iron to your blood.

Love it! Just to clarify a misconception about vitamin B12. Meat eaters are just deficient of vitamin B 12 like anybody else. What causes vitamin B12 deficiency is lack of the bacteria we’re supposed to be ingesting. Question, I don’t scrape the white part of the inner side of the banana peel. Any particular reason you do it?
@ChefJana4 жыл бұрын
That's true. ;) I remove the white inner part when the bananas are riper but not when they are greener, to ensure there are no residues of sweetness from the fruit.

My only question about Banana Peels is: is it safe to eat them??? Most of our bananas are shipped in, aren't they? Wouldn't that mean spraying them with some some type of chemical? I don't know what the protocol is for shipping fruits here. I've always wondered if eating the banana peels is a safe thing to do. I've never seen any of the plant-food doctors talk about it or promote it (McDougall, Barnard, Esselstyn, etc.). Just wondering.

Aah! Please help! I have made this recipe four times since I discovered it a month ago. Love it! But that's the good part. Bad part: my hand crank food processor that I use for the mirepoix, mushrooms, and banana peels... Is disgusting. The banana peels are leaving behind the nastiest wax, kinda like an oil coating on a pan... But I can't get it off. At first I was worried it was spray wax, even though I've used organic bananas only, but after googling the problem I think the wax is intrinsic to the banana peel. But it's still nasty! Any ideas how to clean it? Thanks!

Hi, Jana! I'm Italian and vegan but I must tell you that a real bolognese sauce is usually served on tagliatelle noodles. Tagliatelle are made with eggs and flour. They absorb the sauce much better. Spaghetti were used by women of the Emilia Romagna region only on workdays and with a simple sauce made out of tuna fish, onions and tomatoes. Spaghetti are slippery and don't hold a sauce well so they are usually avoided also by chefs when they cook special dishes. In the past, at the weekend, women prepared a real bolognese (a very 'rich' sauce) with sausage, beef and pork meat, bacon, peas, onions, celery stalks, carrots, butter. olive oil, some tomato paste and some red wine. Last but not least, basil shouldn't be used for bolognese because it is used for dishes in South Italy (on pizza, spaghetti al pomodoro etc.). Bologna is in the north of Italy. There have been many debates in Bologna about the dish 'spaghetti alla bolognese' because only abroad people eat spaghetti with a sauce similar to a bolognese one. That dish doesn't correspond to the real bolognese dish. Now there are suggestions to offer spaghetti with bolognese sauce to tourists in restaurants because tourists ask for this dish and expect spaghetti ;) but the Italian purists suffer because of this decision. There is an article on this topic. However, it is in Italian (see link below)... The author of the article used some pictures he found on Google and a food expert was upset because the author used pictures with spaghetti, sauce and basil on top. We Italians take food very seriously :-D! I can't imagine how food experts from Bologna would react if they read your recipe with banana peel! It would probably be like an explosion :-D! www.ilgiornaledelcibo.it/spaghetti-alla-bolognese-tradizione-o-invenzione/
@ChefJana5 жыл бұрын
Oh, I am well aware that this is not the real bolognese, never will be, unless you are using the original recipe that's is held on the chamber of commerce in the City of Bologna since 1982, using 300 g of beef cartella, 150g pancetta, 50g of carrot, 50g of celery, 50g of onions, 5 tablespoons of tomato sauce or 20g of triple tomato extract, 1 cup of whole milk 1/2 cup of white or red wine, dry and not frizzy, and salt and pepper, to taste, I know, I have visited Bologna many times. Almost no one uses the traditional recipe from the City of Bologna and that's perfectly fine, not even the recipe you've claimed to be the original one, in fact, is. And oh, the mere fact that I am a vegan makes peoples heads explode, no deed to even try to explain that we can make a cover version of their traditional foods using vegetables. Most people would feel honored to see their foods being celebrated all over the world and thank god we can share and fuse cuisines otherwise what boring world it would be. Because, in the end, its just food, it is supposed to be fun and bring joy, and nor sparkle correctness and rightfulness, right? ;)
@sandracarli11105 жыл бұрын
@@ChefJana I know what you mean. Well, sometimes people claim to be able to cook the original dish perfectly and then they make everything wrong. It is like showing a postcard from New York and say it's Florida. For example I watched an Indian youtube video. A lady demonstrated how to make a perfect Italian pizza. However, she used chicken as a topping, something that we never use. In the vegan world we say 'vegan' this and 'vegan' that and we mean that we are going to try and replicate a dish as closely as possible to the original one or very similar. Everybody understands that other ingredients will be used. The word 'vegan' is a kind of protection. At the moment it is quite accepted to do so, even if some factories or industries are getting concerned. For example... The producers of Parmesan cheese are very angry that we say 'vegan Parmesan'. They have a registered brand. The milk industry doesn't want people to use the term 'milk' for plant milk etc. It's a new era and things are quite confusing for the industry!
@ChefJana5 жыл бұрын
@@sandracarli1110 oh, yes.., the correctness... This is so sad, this is something that gets us confused because it is imposed by force, like the mayonnaise case and the parmesan cheese and the milk, that you've mentioned. I guess I will always be the rebel who's going to go against the flow if I don't like where its going, I call them food justice warriors, these people who come to you and tell you can't call your food this or you can't do it this way but rather, their way or worse "the right way". I am indeed the rebel who will always do things my way, especially if people say I can't do it. lol
