Be Ok has been in my top 10 Band-Maid songs since I first heard it. It really reminds me of Pop-Punk here in the UK in the early 80's'. It never fails to bring a smile to my face.

You can really see the posture issues with Akane in this video. She is playing a LOT with her shoulders, especially the cymbal hits. Now, she plays mostly with her wrists.

I watch this and wonder how their management couldn't see their a) talent b) marketability to western rock audiences. Miku's "Gap" concept is genius. They were going to dump them until the Thrill video did well - which proved their market was overseas. Still is really.

The energy is always unmistakeable! So much fun to see them in their early days, and then think about how far they've come! Go go Band-Maid! 🤩

Nice! Maid In Japan doesn't get noticed much these days, I was so thrilled they played Forward at the acoustic show. Now that you seen this song Wave, check out the 2015 concert on Ohrenge's channel. It's called "at All Green Oasis", the first song they played is Be OK. You can REALLY see how Akane messed up her back with the way she was drumming, it looked cool AF... but you could definitely tell she was going to throw her back out at some point.

Even at this early stage you could tell they loved playing live and if they kept growing as musicians they were going to make it.

There's an even earlier pro-shot live video that has surfaced recently, from February 2014, of "Knockin' on Your Heart" - it's crazy how far they've come since then.

Great call on the songs provided to them influencing their music. They definitely learned from them and worked on things that the production thought that they were lacking. Saiki (supposedly drunkenly) encouraged Kanami to keep writing and submitting songs. 😂 Nice catch on Akane's posture too. I don't know specifically about her injury either, but I do remember her saying that fixing her upper body stability and posture helped her with the double bass pedals, rather than just simply training the feet.

It's interesting that one of the things that struck me about Akane when I started watching Band-Maid's MV's in 2018 was that the drummer (Akane) had such proper, upright posture. At the time I assumed it must have been part of a formal training/schooling. But, I didn't realize she previously had back troubles, and that's understandable watching the video. I appreciate your analyses and thoughts Wave.

Thanks, that was a great old video, still shows the energy that they all bring to their shows and hats off to Miku for her selfless promotion of the band. There's another clip from the same venue where Milu brings out her guitar.

The era of the fishnet stockings wow. Love everything about this song because of the feels I get from being a kid. I remember the interview when akane mentioned her posture. There are a few good interviews of them in a bar and Miku talking about her muscle problems

I finally realized what western band this song reminds me of! There was a semi-ska band in the 90s called Save Ferris. Yes after the movie. There's another great ska band with two female singers called Dance Hall Crashers the reminds me too.

Regarding Akane's posture, when you look at BM's early video, her back is crouched, and is leaning forward with her head drooping. This probably would not only strain her back but also her neck. When you look at the World Domination live 2020, her posture is quite different with her whole upper torso straight most of the time.

To me... this is the Band-Maid equivalent of "The Cavern" in 1961 for the Beatles. You see them with their first rabid fans, before anyone knew who they were.

When I hear their early stuff--the stuff they obviously did not write themselves--I still like it, but I doubt that I would have become a fan just based on that early stuff. The first song I heard of theirs was Thrill, and It was definitely rock, which I liked, and they were definitely good musicians, but the song itself was a bit generic. In fact I enjoyed it at the time, then pretty much forgot about the band until World Domination came out, and I didn't really count myself as a "fan" until Conqueror. There early stuff was good, but if they had never evolved past Thrill, I wouldn't have become a fan. But if I have BandMaid on shuffle, the early stuff sounds perfectly natural, and I appreciate it more. You can hear the progression and influences of those early songs to what they have become now.

I've read some comments lately, about them in the days before today, like, Misa wants to leave the band, because Misa thinks, this band won't work, then I've also read, that they almost disbanded a few years ago, and they said "it's okay, as long as we (the members) can still play together out there it's not a problem", but their song "Thrill" managed to save them, and when I saw their past story, I listened to their song which entitled "Before Yesterday", for some reason this song is very emotional, not meant for drama, considering their journey is not easy, so they can be like now, My regards to Miku and the members who managed to survive.

Those crowd shots from "Before Yesterday" were from their first US gig (Sakura-Con in Seattle). Seeing a Western crowd of that size responding with that much enthusiasm made MISA rethink whether they'd be able to make it.

Akane's posture in the early videos was of concern to me especially knowing what a hard hitter Akane is. I remember a film of Ginger Baker playing in Cream: the camera panned from Ginger's head down to his feet. Ginger's head, shoulders, biceps, and torso were almost motionless, only his forearms, wrists, legs, and feet were a blur of motion. Ginger never retired and played almost up until he died at age 80! So I am glad to see Akane taking care of herself . This is another reason why I admire Band-Maid: they're all very health conscious, not just for themselves, but for the band. They are all in this for the long haul and they do not want to let each other down.

Good song, but doesn’t crack my playlists, which are weighted heavily towards the songs they’ve written. You can really hear the difference, even with their first-“Alone”. Not that some earlier songs aren’t amazing, like “Freezer”, and “Real Existence”. You’re right that this is an important stage for them… Band Maid before they blossomed.
