Kanami is not only a great guitar player, she writes the music, the vocal melodies and arranges the songs !! She is also Miku's guitar teacher and probably saiki's guitar and piano teacher. She is also involved in the production of their albums and takes the lead of the band and the crew at rehearsals. All the other members say she is a workaholic !! She practices guitar and writes music every day and has a computer with songs and riffs on it that the other members have never heard !! Top that off with the fact that she is a kind and caring person and that's our Mincho !

Obi-Wan Kanami is one of the world's best at composing songs. The way she layers all the different members' individual pieces into one beautiful whole is incredible. She can create songs that range from the most gentle tunes to face-melting shredding and they are always packed with a hundred fine touches, riffs and unexpected changes. She always makes sure that all the band members have to stretch themselves (Giovanni, for example!) and perform precisely and perfectly - yet they always have fun on stage while performing. Their practice sessions are daily, long (10-12 hours when getting ready for a tour) and hard work and they also have a band camp for a few weeks before tours, where they and their crew live and work together.

The twitch muscle control of her right arm & hand is absolutely sublime. Not to mention the fingerwork on the fretboard. And let's not forget the actual writing of the music in the first place. I just love the woman.

Giovanni has been one of my favorites almost from the first time I heard it. With or without lyrics, it's just so weird and wonderful.

Kanami crafted "Don't Be Long" as a training challenge for Miku to help her increase her speed! "Giovanni" is my favorite!

The crazy thing is that Giovanni wasn't even an instrumental. Major props to Miku and Saiki for figuring out how to write a vocal line and harmony for that insanity. Kanami is the busiest guitarist. You don't always hear her unless you listen closely but she is usually going off. After listening to their instrumentals it just kind of drives home the point that they usually play only what the song needs because that is what is most important. They could show off for 4 minutes but it would not serve the greater purpose. Misa and Akane are just so dynamic as a "rhythm section" and Kanami is so unique and creative.

This was actually my first time hearing the studio version of "Don't Be Long." I've always just watched fancam versions of it from their 2019 US tour.

Akane’s name is the Japanese word for the herbal plant called rose madder or dyer’s madder. It is related to the coffee plant, has tiny yellow flowers which turn into black berries, and red roots which have long been used as a source of red dye. It has been used to dye the saffron robes of oriental monks, and the uniforms of British “redcoat” soldiers. PS: I love Akane. (The mighty Drummer-Maid of course, not the dumb weed.) ❤❤❤❤❤

"Giovanni"...even though it's not technically an instrumental....Is AWESEOME! as one!..It is my favourite instrumental by the ladies...and that is saying something considering the competiton...Watching the ladies in the white room perform the instrumentals is incredible...You can see how much they enjoy playing and not only that how much they enjoy playing TOGETHER...There are so many bands that only play together on stage and don't actual enjoy being around each other..It's done for the money...Where as these ladies play for sheer hell of it!..because they love it..and they love performing for the fans..They are truly special..Long May They Reign!👑

The Ladies don't have a "Usual Sound", but they do have a unique and readily identifiable sound. Usually I can tell if it's the Ladies in the first 3-5 notes of the song just from the tone of their instruments. And if it helps you to remember, you could use Akane's nickname of Gorilla. And I don't know how Kanami does it. I get cramps in my fingers just strumming chords lightly. How she does what she does with her hands, especially for a 2+ hour long concert, I think my fingers would have fallen off. And what you need to remember is Kanami started playing piano a little before her 4th birthday and has played daily ever since, she didn't start to play guitar until I think 2 months before her 17th birthday, in high school. And she just recently turned 31. Kanami is a woman who took singing lessons to be a good singer, but she HATES to sing. But she doesn't want to do anything badly, so she gets lessons and practices. The same with guitar. She wanted to be more popular in school, so she learned how to play guitar and found that she wanted to be a professional musician. Her parents however had her finish her degree (Bachelors in Economics), while she was still in college, she continued to take lessons for voice and guitar AND playing her piano daily. She wanted to write her own music, so she taught herself to use a DAW and built a small home recording studio. And she also graduated early with her degree as she attended class during the summer break just so she could graduate early. Kanami is a determined woman, when she wants something. So all of her talents is mixed with grit and determination, to make her the musician and composer that she is today. And I for one am thankful for that.

I'm not sure why but the beginning of Don't Be Long reminds me of a surfer song. Like Kanami is channeling Dick Dale's spirt lol. Man I'd love for them do a version of Wipe Out! lol.

I always like your reaction. This time, you focused on Kanami and conveyed your impressions. Among the members, I highly value Kanami's talent. As a player, but above all, his talent as a composer.

From what I gained from listening to interviews and articles in magazines Kanami composes the music first. Then the members get together at various stages of the composition and workout weather or not it is physically possible to play, write the lyrics (split into two languages that have to make some sort of sense) which Saiki then has to sing with Miku . Meanwhile MISA gets tipsy and lays down some serious bass lines (which sometimes she wishes were not so complex), Akane learns, relearns and recomposes the drum part of the song and on occasion has had to tell Kanami "I don't have three arms but I can do this instead". After starting slowly the members ramp up the bpm until they can all play, drum and sing the track at the right tempo. The tracks are recorded and Saiki is the quality control. If it doesn't meet the standard the song is completely deleted and will never be heard outside of the band.

The first time I saw Giovanni on Prime I thought it was CGI. And really good CGI too, not that Dollar Store stuff.

IF you've never heard the origional Giovanni with lyrics, you should also check it out, its great too! And it's a lot easier to parse whats going on if youve heard the instrumental! Its kinda overwhelming on first listen if you havnt- but I think overall it's a better song WITH the singing- more catchy. But speaking of Kanami being a monster and instrumentals - 'From now on' cant be beat imo :)
