In the era of streaming very few people hear more than the 2-3 best known songs of any artist. In the case of a great band like this, it's a shame, because nothing they do is filler.
@Parker--
@Parker-- Ай бұрын
I agree but I’d think that’s always largely been the case among the general audience due to radio then MTV. In radio, the biggest bands in history have been whittled down to 3 or 4 songs at most. What I will grant is that with the death of physical media, there’s a smaller percentage of dedicated fans because they aren’t monetarily forced to invest into an entire album and give more of the songs a listen. That all said, easily accessible music makes for more fans so maybe the number of dedicated fans, Maidiacs in this case, is the same, but number of casual listeners skew the number of plays. It’s an interesting topic but I’m rambling so I’ll stop now. 😋

Here's the problem with Band-Maid... they've made an insane number of great songs. And the way that platforms like KZfaq work, as people are saying above, is that it wants to feed you "hits," the stuff that people consider to be the good stuff from the band. Well, there's no video for the (amazing) song "I'll" as we can see from the reaction, official studio or live. Without the visuals, it's just going to get played less often... and people always have "favorites" that are the ones they've heard more, so if you *demand* that they pick a favorite, they'll pick Domination or Hate or somesuch. But if you push them and ask "do you like I'll or Hate better?" the best answer you may get is like "well the Yokohama performance of Hate is epic" (of course)... but they'll have to admit that they've only listened to Hate more because it's what Roger Chance throws out nowadays most often as an introduction song for reactors... They're both great songs. So someone might say "it's just more Band-Maid," but any real fan (and this is not a "no true Scottsman" argument) will tell you that "just more Band-Maid" is a great song. As the man said, correctly, in the video, it's "typical in that it's atypical" and as such, it's "just" another amazing song.

I'll keep saying this until I drop: Band-Maid isn't the band of the year or the band of the decade. They aren't a generational band. Band-Maid is the band of a lifetime. 🕊

I have been a drummer in bands since 1969, and Akane is in a very elite group of drummers who are band drums. Yes she can solo but her approach to a track makes it sound like a 5 peice percussion ensemble.

Unfortunately, we’re dealing with a lot of Tic Tok’ers who have a short attention spans. If they would simply listen (not just hear the music) but listen to the instruments and vocals and the interplay between each part they would be hooked. These ladies, their music, effort and attention to detail is what makes them so very special. With all that said I still believe that they will receive the recognition, world wide, for their music. Maidiacs Unite! 😏

I also agree that this is a BM classic, so much going on, the ominous grungy sections and soaring melodic chorus. Akane is a beast on this song. Kanami’s solo is fantastic and the rhythm guitar work is some of the best of BM.

日本から。 Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. I understand and I agree with you that there is no such thing as a typical BAND-MAID. These girls never repeat the same thing and I feel like they are always trying something new. I don't think I'm the only one who feels that every time I hear a new song (or even a live performance), their skill level improves. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that when KNANI composes music, she create the framework and she making them do it to arrangement each member, including the vocal line. KANAMI is also known to require each member to do difficult things. And it is SAIKI who gives the final OK. So I think BAND-MAID is doing something like self-production. Also, I feel that MIKU has become very important in the last few years, not only on rhythm guitar, but also on harmony and vocal layering. BAND-MAID is supported by five pillars.

The way Band-Maid blends genres into very dense yet super integrated music with new guitar tones (Kanami's first run in No God, and Corallium / Influencer, for instance); Akane's drum patterns, fills and beats which go beyond any rock drumming we've ever heard; MISA's second-lead runs, slap/pick/finger techniques, and that tone!!; Miku's unusual second vocal work and lyrics; and Saiki's rapid-fire, powerful singing style... all has Band-Maid if not busting new trails out of their core genre, then certainly setting new trends in rock music for all rock musicians to consider and be inspired by. In short, I'd say Band-Maid is making waves by setting new playing, performance, and prolific work ethic standards that we'll see the results of for years to come. They've upped the game for all to follow! Thx, John!

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say this song is mediocre Band-Maid. I've not met a Maidiac that doesn't like it. It became my favourite track off the Unleash EP the moment I heard it! There is an awesome version of it live available right now. It was part of the 10th anniversary spin off show held at Zepp Yokohama on 22 February. They livestreamed the full show recently and tickets are still available on Zaiko - the set list was incredible, probably one of the best set lists ever.

The I'll live version is on the Tokyo Garden Blu-Ray ( these Blu-Rays are a must have for BM fans )followed by I Still Seek Revenge another composition that has this kind of threatening undertone- tres cool, a great two-fer. And as always the live versions soar, with an added intro to ISSR that ROCKS. I have one one song, one, and I have ALL there CD's that I don't quite like and I might skip over but all 140 + others? Just one fantastic compositon after another and that includes all the songs not written by them heck they made them their own anyway.

From my memory I'll seemed to be a lot of peoples favourite track off of Unleash!!!!! when it was released. It didn't immediately grab me until I saw it live in the Tokyo Garden livestream and it then became another top song. They played it at the Yokohama spinoff show as well and it was even better. It's a song that they haven't played live a lot (about 4 times last year) so I wonder if that's the reason why it gets less attention now.

Thanks for an excellent take on this song. It's unfortunate that I can't call it the best track on the album (because "From Now On") but it's only a hair away. Perhaps the subtle changes of rhythmic emphasis get missed because of the unholy rolling thunder? Dunno. Because they're packed so tightly together? On the whole, it may be one of the most avant-garde things they've assembled -- while presenting as hammer-down hard rock. Amazing trick.

Another long Band-Maid chorus that resolves so pleasantly (Kanami genius). Akane keeps shifting the chorus rhythm as it progresses to make it even better. For a newer Band-Maid composition, this one resonates immediately. Some others take a few listens to appreciate more completely but 'I'll' just bangs through as a great modern rock song.

Yet another severely underappreciated song. On my first listen to this album, I called this song my favorite. Now it's tied with a couple of others (of course), but it's an intense rocker, with a lot of complex fills and cool structural dalliances. Any song they do, nothing repeats quite the same - every new moment is a first.

Thank you. DO MORE ALBUM TRACKS from this band. Some of their very best material does not have a music video or an official live video. Unfortunately, some fans give the impression that only the songs with a video should be reviewed. It's a f*cking shame. I don't know who thinks this is "typical" because most fans I know of seem to love this song but, whoever they are, they need to have their hearing checked.

Rock Candy, I agree with you 100% about how Band-Maid writes and records their music. They are never afraid to experiment with their music and are so innovative because of that courage. I think decades from now musicologists and Music teachers will study what they do with their compositions, their arrangements, and their sound engineering and will probably say there are some lessons to be learned here. The Band-Maid has such a discography of music that listening to it in-depth will probably take years to analyze.

I seem to need a visual component to help me get a grip on their more complex songs. As an example, many were raving about Corallium, but I could not process it. Then the live video of Corallium started making the rounds. Bingo, it started making sense to me. Some of us are just a little slow!

This one, to me, feels like angry Band-Maid. Even more than Hate? it seethes with tension throughout. The drums and bass positively rattle and sound like they’re about to overrun the melody. The guitars are more shrill and staccato than anything else I can remember from them, and the vocals sound like they’re being sung through pursed lips. A tone poem from a dark place. Masterfully executed of course, as usual.
