Welcome aboard, Hops Metal Show. Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid. But please, please use a headset. You don't want to look at the Grand Canyon through a coke bottle with only one eye, right? You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of rock n’ rollers. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (over 75 songs!), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor (IMHO) position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones, are kick-ass! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" is a great place to start. Their newer songs drive even more - Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written slower tunes like Daydreaming, Anemone and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like Band-Maiko! Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017. If you dig it, make sure to support / purchase some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BR & Merch, etc. Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings... especially after seeing them play it LIVE. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days, Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their more earlier stuff. You might have to (ugh!) sign in to FB or search for his Band-Maid mix: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi “Ice Queen" - High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). Lead vocals, arrangements & melodies, 25 years old & youngest. Heels or sneakers, her smile melts away the persona. Her charisma and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, oldest at 28. Band founder & SpokesPigeon, po. Her charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! Kanami Tono “Princess” - Lead guitar, 26 years old, keyboards, writes most of the material. Kanami (Translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose "Beast" - Drums, 27 years old, band leader. Talents include (besides massive consumption of noodles and other things, even during performance!) revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 26 years old. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. barefoot… uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of Jack D, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

@@hopsmetalshow3413 Oh yeah! But only four times, I think. Their next tour, Domination 2019 - Turbulent, just started with four shows in EU, Taiwan, Japan, of course, and four more in the USA. Just to add on the backstory of the band, as some have already explained. Miku Kobato (rhythm g) envisioned a hard rock band with maid outfit for she worked part time at a maid cafe in Tokyo after her failed stint as a member of an Pop idol group for three years. She saw Kanami (lead g) online and spoke to her to see if to join. She agreed and the formation of the band began. Next came Akane (drums) who helped Kanami at times. Akane brought along Misa (bass), her school mate from Tokyo School of Music (equiv. to Berklee School of Music in Boston). They formed a band of a quartet at beginning. However, Miku quickly realized her voice did not fit the music genre they were targeting. So, they all auditioned for a lead vocal and found Saiki (lead v). Kanami, Akane and Misa have been playing and learning instruments since around 3 to 6 years old. They are all multi-instrumentalists and are classically trained; namely piano & guitar - Kanami, piano, trombone and drums for Akane, and piano, bass for Misa. Kanami composes almost all B-M songs. She is a genius. Then she sends it to Miku for the lyrics. Meantime, Akane and Misa adds their parts to the song. And Saiki adds her final opinion and any additional recommendations. They are a great band, team and amazing musicians. Nice to look at, too. I haven't seen a band with this much talent in one band. Not only that, they are unlike some other bands where one member takes the sole spotlight. They all shine individually. And they all contribute to make each song stand out. No one tries to take all the portion of the song for herself. Their live sets are where it's at. They are better live than the CD's.

I will say this once... Watch "Play" live - your jaws will drop Watch "Puzzle" live - your eyes will pop out Watch "Onset" live - your brain will try to not to watch another B-M song but will fail Oh, and use headsets like others have said. Kanami (lead g) will be on your right ear Miku (rhythm g) will be on your left ear Misa (bass) will be slight left of center Akane (drums) will be center with her tom toms with you hearing her snare, hi-hat and crash symbol on right and ride symbol on left. Saiki (vocal) will be center. And yes, she has very good rock voice (non squeaky Japanese female) Their recordings are amazing.

Most people found Band-Maid through Babymetal. Not that the bands are similar (they aren't), but Babymetal opened up a lot of people's eyes and ears to stuff that's been happening in Japan for years, especially as it relates to all female or female fronted hard rock/heavy metal bands, of which there are many. Babymetal got big, and in the little suggested boxes to the right is where Band-Maid were hiding. People who were turned off of Babymetal for whatever reason would not likely find Band-Maid, which sounds like you guys, so lucky someone recommended them and you found them that way because they're pretty amazing. Also, they're really not a metal band by any stretch, but they do obviously appeal to a lot of metal fans. Kind of like how metalheads in the 70s could get into a band like Cheap Trick, but nobody would really describe Cheap Trick as a heavy metal band. That's kind of the same way Band-Maid fit into it all.

Pretty sure watching BABYMETAL videos is what made KZfaq reccomend Thrill years ago and DICE last year. BandMaid is more in the hard rock than metal category. Their heavier songs are Secret my lips, Moratorium, Dice, and Puzzle. The whole look is from the second vocalist Miku (red rose) previously working at a maid cafe and wanting a rock band to play up the contrast. They have some good live footage as well. Another band from japan you might like is Lovebites. 5 ladies. Shadow maker and The Crusade are their best songs. Incredible guitar work.

Put it this way, somebody put up a top 30 of their favourite Band-Maid songs, and there were arguments in the comments below about the songs that didn't even make it into their top 30, let alone the order. Most requests will probably be for live performances, as they great live, usually with a little extra not in the studio version. "Play" and "Don't You Tell ME" are the obvious two on that front. Dice (music video only) will be recommended a lot, Moratorium, Domination, Alone, Choose Me... I always request Don't Let Me Down. Band-Maid are definitely more hard rock than metal, but there's quite an extensive Japanese metal scene too.

A great example and they have only gotten better, not real metal more Hard Rock with Metal and Punk influences but still one of the best rhythm section playing today. You need separate ear buds as the mixing done is great and Misa(Bass) is always in the left ear and Kanami(Guitar) is always in the right ear. Great band especially LIVE try Take Me Higher LIVE (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rKypjMyBqcDelKs.html) for a real look at the bass and guitar riffs they do with a driving Akane drums pace. For a real metal sound try Mary's Blood Marionette (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7J9Zdifu5bPp4k.html) and watch Saki do some of the best shredding around, she is the equal of any of the metal boys and Rio on bass gives you that 80's metal Judas Priest sound!!! Glad you could see Band Maid as a professional group and not another 'idol' group from Japan. As with BabyMetal, the live performances is where it is at. Particularly with Band Maid, some of their music videos are poor in my view. This is due to budget restrictions and for me, seeing a group with a background miming playing is not in the least bit creative. I have linked you a live version of Real Existence song here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8h9d7aj2JOocas.html This is a fan cam. I chose this over the DVD live version as that version is so post produced and in my view poorly edited, it may as well be a music video. For a recommendation for your next Band Maid reaction, I suggest Thrill. The music video for this was their first video. As an idea, you may want to react to the live version here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7eHeJh02NiXnKc.html and then look at the music video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8qjaspkspOYnIU.html You will see that the uniforms have changed over the years.

@satomiwa5 жыл бұрын
What interview? Babymetal are Su and Moa, aka the singers. They don't play instruments and neither does Saiki, because she's the singer. Saying Babymetal "don''t play their instruments" is as dumb as saying Ozzy Osborne doesn't play his instruments. Well duh, but there's a band along with him who does, just like Babymetal. And an immensely good band at that. Edit - Never mind, I found it. Yeah, she didn't say that as a diss. She went on immediately after to say "“We don’t feel that we are rivals, we have huge respect for Babymetal. To see a Japanese act work so hard and be recognised outside of Japan by so many respected musicians and fans - it’s amazing. We can only hope that one day our determination gets us anywhere near that level of recognition.” It's also worth noting that Band-Maid's first big break as far as wider recognition back when they were unknown came from Babymetal, when they promoted Band-Maid's new (at the time) album on their own website.

@@Badllamah You could be right, but I'm only sensitive in the sense that I see way too much trashing of Babymetal from Band-Maid fans when if it wasn't for Babymetal, most of them wouldn't even know there were bands in Japan. I don't really follow Babymetal very closely. I was late getting into them because I dismissed them as a novelty at first, but eventually they sucked me in. I lost interest after the two albums when Mikio passed away, Yui left, and management did some shady things I wasn't impressed by. And I don't like any of the new songs I've heard. Band-Maid are my favourite group at the moment and have been for several years now. But I still don't like the Babymetal bashing.

Band Mid is a band. Saiki is a vocalist while the other girls play instruments. Babymetal are 2 vocalists/dancers with a backing band. They are idols (the girls, not Kami Band). This is what Miku meant. It'd be ridiculous to even compare the two since they hardly have anything in common. Band Maid is an all-girl rock band. Babymetal is an idol metal group. It'd be fair to only compare Babymetal to a group like Ladybaby.
@VladimirChupin5 жыл бұрын
So funny to see this holy war erupting each time BAND-MAID is on display. All arguments have been repeated a hundred times, and still people play this game. Obviously, there is something between the two bands, which invites a comparison. But this similarity is indeed very superficial. Which fact, when suddenly discovered during conversation, rather adds oil to the fire, although logically it should have quenched the wrangling immediately. Who can possibly compare Queen and Metallica? Or Red Hot Chili Peppers and ABBA? Or BAND-MAID and BabyMetal? Guys, please come back to your senses...

Age wise? AFAIK Mid to late 20s, and awesome :p The maids thing came about because Miku (backing singer and rhythm guitar, also the founder and spokesperson) was working in a maid cafe, and listening to classic rock/metal on her way to work, she then decided that she liked the dichotomy of the image and the sounds, then recruited the rest of the band. (It gets more in-depth than that but that's the jist). Suggestion for other female fronted J-Rock bands: Unlucky Morpheus - Knight of Swords (power metal with a touch of goth and symphonic) Lovebites - The Crusade (Classic 80s heavy metal) Aldious - We Are, ( heavy rock / metal) . All of them are great, and none go high pitched

BAND-MAID are a great Hard Rock band with punk, metal, funk, etc. influences. I'm not sure why you would think they are a metal band, and that's not the way they describe themselves. Not even sure what to say about not caring for "high pitched voices" in women singers. That gets pretty close to just not liking women in general. BAND-MAID's Saiki is a great front woman though. I'll agree with you about that.

The Japanese music scene is a deeep rabbit hole, you are bound to feel like Alice at least some of the time ;) I would like for you to take a quick visit into the land of "doujin bands" and react to Unlucky Morpheus - "Phantom Blood": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9acadKYvsCsnWQ.html if you are at all interested in power/(speed) metal. About the costumes. In Japan music and fashion go pretty much hand in hand. The more you react to Japanese music (especially metal) the more you will notice that most of them look a bit different from what is usual for this kind of music in America or Europe. The combination of music and a more extreme visual approach (in their outfits, make-up, video's and live shows) is called "Visual Kei". It is NOT a music genre (as some like to claim on KZfaq) and includes all sorts of music from rock-pop to death metal. Other than in most countries, they don't really make such strikt boundaries between genres anyway. These kind of Maiden costumes are pretty common in Japan though and I wouldn't count Band-Maid to Visual Kei. If you want to check out more from Band-Maid I would recommend a live version, they are pretty astonishing live :)
