This song was written to be the theme song for the anime "Platinum End" so the lyrics were based on notes about the show from the producers. Apparently angels feature in the story, hence the feathers and they had a couple shots on the lead singer posed in front of wings. In 2020 they had a similar deal with their song "Different" which was the theme for season 3 of the anime "Log Horizon". They are a great live band, very playful and they really feed off the audience, but with COVID all they've been able to do is online shows for their fans. They have released several "live" videos this year but they're all from these online shows, so no audience. When they first started, in 2013, they all wore very similar maid outfits, but as time went on the costumes have evolved to fit each individual. Actual live-with-people tracks from their official channel include "Domination", "Freedom", "Moratorium", "Real Existence", "Wonderland" and the instrumental "Onset".

They all used to wear the French style maid suits but they have evolved over the years with some using different styles now.

Band-Maid is not all about guitar solos. In fact, they are very balanced. They accentuate each member equally. They used real feathers in the filming. They are better live. They are probably one of the greatest hard rock bands of our generation. Unlike Lovebites (I like them too), each member has very unique personality and there is much more accessible information about them. They are hilarious off stage. Absolutely adorkable people.

I was wondering when you'd get to them. Make sure to check out their live videos. They're one of the best live bands out there. Originally they all wore maid outfits, but the lead singer and bassist weren't fans of that, so they switched to outfits that suit their own styles, and the drummer switched to an outfit with a maid look but with shorts to be more ergonomic for drumming.

The costumes are based on the Japanese Maid cafe theme. The lead singer uses I believe a Spanish Maid outfit and Misa the bassist also uses a different style maid the other 3 use more traditional maid attire. If you want to see this group at their best check out their live videos they are amazing

Band maid is my favorite band. The second is lovebites. In terms of musicality, they cannot allow others to follow. They put a different riff in the first and second verse of the tune, and the musical sense is genius.

They have one song in 220+ bpm, called black hole and to more harmonies, there are no god, real existence, manners (coolest bass and guitar solo + voc. Harmonies)

Nice reaction Anastasia, they all wear different "Maid" costumes. They are virtuoso musicians and you will find that their solos don't tend to be too long. Different songs will feature solos on guitar, drums and bass. Misa is my favorite bassist in music today. You can see how much they love what they do as they always have fun on stage. I like their live videos best as a rule and some popular ones are "Freedom", "Dice", and "Warning" but every single song is great !

Domination (live) is a standard live recommendation. I would also say Onset (live) if you want to focus on the instrumental side of the band as it is an instrumental. For Vocals, I would suggest Wonderland (Live Concert with fans) or the online live "About us". Other options are Play (live), Real Existence (live), Freedom (live-drum solo).

MISA questioned whether being in B-M was the right thing until they toured the U.S & she saw the love from the crowds. Then she knew it was the right place to be :)

THE best live Rock band on the planet. Think that's everything covered...OK, a bit more...Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. This is the theme song for the Anime Platinum End! It appears anytime Band-Maid is contracted to do a song for Anime or a video game the song is completely different from what one expects from Band-Maid. Originally all members of Band-Maid wore the same type of outfit, over time Misa and Saiki went Gothic!! Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!!

As others have said, this is the theme song for Platinum End, which features angels. In anime, white feathers are typically seen on standard angels, while black feathers are typically from fallen angels. I haven't watched this particular anime to confirm it, but if you watch enough anime you see it so often that it becomes an expected trope.

Welcome to Band Maid Anastasia. Using the harmonies between the two vocalists in an outstanding way it is trade mark of the band so I think this is a music style that you could really enjoy. On their official YT channel there are several songs live. You can start with No God or the Manners-Black Hole combo (there are two songs but the video is not long, less than 8 minutes). This band is truly a live band. There is five obvious songs to listen on as live version: Domination, Freedom, DICE, Play and Onset. But to be honest all they made as live perfomence is amazing and I cant pick a favorite. All is good! It goes from week to week what I think is the best. That good is this band. Five girls with amazing talents.

Well... when they was formed not all were too much into it the image. Especially Misa on bass and Saiki on Vocals, who was hired when Miku discovered her voice lacked the power for the genre. When Saiki auditioned they were warned by her agent that she might be turned off by the image... and recommended not tell her. So she turns up to the first concert. She was not very happy... But during the years her and Misas look has moved in another direction to more of a hostess (Saiki) and assassin (Misa).

A lot of folks mentioning Domination, Freedom, Real Existence Live and those are all great. Play live is also really good there is call and rsponse with the crowd and between the 2 vocalists. They do have several live non audience videos like Manners/Black Hole, Dice/Different, Warning, No God etc. Manners/Black Hole are 2 totally different songs but a lot going on between the 2 vocalists. In Black Hole the back vocalist at times is singing a counter melody to the lead vocalist

A very good live version they have is for the song Play. Another great all-women metal band from Japan is Nemophile. They are newer, so not so much stuff out there (lots of great cover versions, mainly), but worth checking out.

You should check out their live performance of Manners/Black Hole for some great harmonies and backing vocals. This band has songs in a wide variety of styles. They are, like Lovebites, very talented.

For live harmonies I would suggest the live of Manners/Blackhole. They do some cool harmonies in that one. It’s on their KZfaq page :).

Mincho ( lead guitars ) is heavily influenced by blues players, but we want her to shred more but I dont shell ever do those speed metal stuff😂😂. Minchos chops are crazy tho, she have a lot of crazy good rock n roll riffs in their catalog and shes very melodic in her playin

Oh boy. You've summoned another fan-army! Discovered this band a few months ago. I'm now obsessed. These girls are incredible live, and their music videos are also fantastic. I'd be excited to see you cover more for sure! Always really appreciate your input on these musicians and performances! Live, definitely see; Domination, Onset (Instrumental), Freedom. Music videos, definitely see; Manners (my favourite, probably - great lyrics), Warning, Dice, Blooming, Choose Me, mmm.... Well, really, all of them. If you want to see sort of their "origin" point, the Thrill music video is the first one they ever made. Important to note that did not have full creative control at that point - but it's really great to see where they came from, to appreciate where they are now. Amazing. And check out Band-Maiko too. It's "totally" not the same band just making an April fools joke... 😋 But it's great. They mix in some traditional instrumentation, and step a little outside their usual path. BAND-MAID is mostly a hard rock band and I love their hard rocking songs, but if you want to hear a lot of harmonizing, I would suggest About Us. It is more of a pop ballad that they wrote for their fans after they had to cancel their shows due to covid. The live version is very emotional and you can feel how they miss having a live audience. It's not their usual style, but it is representative of their talent as it is full of small intricate details that you need to pay attention to to notice. It just shows how much effort they put into their craft and I love them for it!

Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist and second vocalist, was in an idol trio called Lil Cumin. They didn't make much of an impact during their time together and split up. Miku found herself working in a maid cafe, but she still wanted to be involved in music. She came up with the idea of BAND-MAID, a band that had a soft, feminine image yet produced hard rock, creating a contrast in expectation versus reality they call "they gap." Miku found Kanami, the lead guitarist, through KZfaq; apparently Kanami was posting guitar and vocals covers. Miku contacted Kanami who knew Akane, the drummer, who had gone to music school with MISA, the bass guitarist. Despite her experience with Lil Cumin, Miku decided her voice wasn't strong enough to carry a rock band, so they held auditions and met Saike. Miku picked up a guitar for the first time, and in their early videos, you can tell she doesn't know how to play it yet. Akane has taught her through the years, and Miku's incredible work ethic has made her into a damn good rhythm guitarist. Saike didn't know about the maid outfits until the last minute. She thoroughly rejected the apron, but she wore the rest of the outfit. The five ladies have all customized their look through the years, and now Saiki and MISA are in outfits that are still maid-esque but are either all black or predominately black. I think it was Miku who said MISA wears the outfit of an assassin maid, and since she's always barefoot when they play live, she's affectionately called the Barefoot Assassin. Saiki once said that Akane was such a great drummer that it's like she was half-gorilla, so Akane is often lovingly called The Gorilla. Miku Kobato is a stage name, and Kobato means "small pigeon." She often says "po" at the end of her sentences to reflect the pigeon motiff. Also, her current guitar is her signature guitar called the "Flappy Pigeon." There is a small connection between BAND-MAID and LOVEBITES. The two drummers are friends. They follow each other on social media and have hung out a few times. Also, Mexican rock band The Warning are fans of BAND-MAID. As for where to go next, I'm sure the live versions of "Freedom" and "Domination" have been recommended, but I'm going to recommend "Play." Band-Maid is a hard rock band, while LOVEBITES is a heavy metal band. Both are great bands, but the feelings you get when listening to each band will be different. Now I wanna suggest you a band called NEMOPHILA, I guess you haven't reacted to them yet. One of the most if notto say the completest band I've ever seen. Not only the talent on instruments ( Akane on drums and Misa on bass are multi instrumental ), but also the vocals and harmonies in singing. They are also masterminds of composing ( Kanami, the lead guitar ) and writing ( Miku the rhythm guitar / back vocals and Saiki the singer ). They are like a damned machine gun, writing and composing new songs. Try always live performances if possible, they are one of the best live bands. As already mentioned below, "Freedom", "Domination" and "Play" are typical songs from them, although they did get faster on the last album.

Excellent review Anastasia! You'll find that Band-Maid has a super-unique, addictive, and diverse blend of hard rock, ballads, blues, punk, pop, and just about everything else. Their main composer (Kanami Tono, lead guitarist) is an incredibly consistent songwriter. Others to look into: Domination (live), No God (live), Wonderland (live); Ballads: Daydreaming (MV), endless story (MV).

I became very bored with rock music and kept going back to my favourite time for the genre of the 70s,80s. But then a few years ago I came across Band Maid. They are just a different class for me. I have gone through their 8 years of music and haven't found anything I didn't like. The band has grown and each member of the band started with what seemed a clear set of ideas. They have become their own writers and have simply become a must listen and watch.

Well…where do we start? Live…checkout About Us, Freedom, Warning, Domination, Manners, Black Hole, Dice, Anemone….could go on and on. Freezer is nice dual-vocal. Best just dip in I think.

I won't offer any suggestions because I'm sure everyone and their brother or sister has already given one or more. Pick ANYTHING, they're all good. The only thing I'll say is that this is the best ROCK genre band on the planet at the moment. I'm 70 and they dragged me out of my rock and roll lethargy back into rock. Normally I'm a prog guy but I love this band. I've bought their entire discography. Watch their live videos. They're a different animal.

Their MVs contain a LOT of symbolism. I haven't explored this one yet, but I'd bet on the feather color change having meaning. Dark to light.

Lovebites and Band-Maid are really tough to compare... Lovebites is PURE metal and Band-Maid is rock, BUT i wouldn´t lie or talk BS if i tell you that Band-Maid is WAY MORE versatile. They are not limited to rock, they play metal, rock, punk, funk, blues, jazz and pop, its like their own style, if you dive into more of their songs you gonna hear clearly what i mean. Lovebites is great, but they are sticking by their signature style (genre) of choice. YES, they are great, the both guitarists are CRAZY, but Kanami does not shred, she is more like an emotional guitarist and does not want to show off, she always tries to enhance a song, so there is no need for that. In Lovebites its also their signature that Midori and Miyako are going off, so yeah... TOUGH to compare them, because they are aiming for different audiences. About the costumes... They are all wearing maid costumes (no surprise here). At the beginning they wore the same kind of outfits, but over the years every member changed their costumes to fit their personality. -Miku (rhythm guitar/ backing vocal) is wearing a very fancy maid cafe costume. She is the founder of the band, and she is the one who wanted to combine maids with hard rock, so it makes sense that her costume is the most maid like. -Saiki (vocal) is wearing an elegant black dress. She is the ice queen of the band, and her outfit reflects that. It's elegant, dark and beautiful. -Kanami (lead guitar) has a conventional maid outfit, it's not fancy at all (unlike Miku's), it's just as humble and shy as she is. (well, she tends to be not shy when she has a guitar in her hands, bit that's not the point) -MISA (bass) is wearing a long, sleek black dress. It's mysterious, but cool and beautiful, just like her. -Akane (drums) has a fun and little bit tomboyish outfit, which shows her personality. She always likes to joke around, and she's the most outgoing member of the band.

You at least know three very good Japanese bands! But there's a lot more to offer. For me Band-Maid is the top. Well, of any band right now. I've never had a band with as many fantastic songs as these women have made and probably going to make. I highly recommend their live videos. Subscribed and look forward for your next Band Maid reaction which I would like to recommend Manner/Black Hole (Live), both songs have great chorus from Miku the rhythm guitarist and the band founder.

Wonderland live is a good vocal showcase for the harmonies. And yes you can hear them better in most of their live performances rather than the studio mixes. Only the two singers usually do the singing, the other members don't really add much often. Miku (twin tails) sometimes does harmonies and sometimes does octave backing I think.

Loved the reaction., This is a rather odd first song as it was written for a Japanese Anime. Neat thing about this band is their insane diversity in styles. Im sure you are going to get pummeled with fan suggestions. Personally I rate this as one of the most exciting LIVE bands in front of an audience. Zepp, Studio Coast and Line Cube concerts all have videos on their official channel. :) Oh, on Harmonies, Miku (Gtr/Voc) is the lyricist and back up vocals and does a great job in harmonizing with Saiki on lead vocals. I would STRONGLY recommend "Wonderland" Live (Official) as the last verse is a brilliant example of the ladies cutting right to the soul. Its not the only one, but very distinct example ;) Enjoy!
