Kanami channeling her inner Slash here, I think. “Shambles” is eerily reminiscent of the essence of “Slither” by Velvet Revolver. That’s what I love about the Maids. They have elements and sounds that are familiar to classic rock, but combine genres and take it into entirely different places.

Kudos for noticing right off the bat the unusual drum pattern. If you listen to Akane a lot, you'll notice that this is a trademark of hers. She's constantly playing very unexpected drum patterns, as well as changing them about every 2 measures. You'd think it would make no sense, but it just makes it more interesting IMO.

Hearing Band-Maid LIVE is a superior sonic experience because the instruments are discrete, it's less complicated (by not having multiple studio guitar tracks, etc.), and no overall (mastering) compression. And of course, watching the Maids play and interact LIVE is something you'll never forget!

While Band Maid's "Shambles" is an outstandingly energetic stand-alone song with catchy lyrics, it is actually a commissioned work designed to be the outro of a physically intense martial arts anime production. The frantic energy of the song reflects the shows hard action component which may help in analyzing the musical choices made in the songwriting process. Miku Kobato's masterful lyrics reflects the theme of never giving up and always pursue one's dreams with focus and intensity. Once again, Band-Maid proves itself to an exceptionally impressive hard rock/metal band.

I think I know what you mean somewhat. Akane's drumming is not a pure "on-beat" metal style, and even considering the musical background she has been listening to, I feel influence of classic rock and jazz, which is evident in the heavy use of syncopation and triplets. And to begin with, none of the band members are influenced by metal music, and there are many elements of jazz, rock, and popular music packed in, that's a big part of its appeal.

This song is the ending theme for the martial arts anime Kengan Ashura. It seems that there was a request from the anime production. That's probably why AKANE needed to hit the drums with high density throughout the entire song. IMO.

If you watch the anime, there's a lot of scenes where the fighters are throwing punches at the same rate as Akane's rolls.

They give audience breathers at concerts, offer more diversity so that our brain won't melt but feels more like a non-stop party. I love Akane's drumming because it's never boring and dances with other instruments. Also, Akane isn't just about her technique. She knows when to pull back. Her drum serves the song, maybe not in a minimalistic way (even though she does it in their slower songs) but rather adding extra layer to their music to make it more interesting.

Band Maid don't block their videos if they are off their official You tube channel in fact they love it, Mention it in "servings!" they spend a lot of time noting what is said on their off time, Kanami learns from it. FYI so no problem like Baby Metal etc. Vocal effect is Lo Fi Freq squeezed between HPF and LPF.

Yes, Shambles is the Akane show with special guest stars Kanami, MISA, Saiki and Miku. But wait! Was it really the Kanami show, because she wrote the song and played it with such forcefulness and exquisite abandon. Or was it the MISA show because without MISA, the rapturous drive of the song would be a ride on four flat tires. Or was it the Saiki show because she focused the sonic chaos into a song with melodies that could express Miku's lyrics like no other singer could. Without Saiki, Shambles might sound like a familiar instrumental. Or was it the Miku show because, damn, she wrote the lyrics, played the important rhythm parts, and added her unique brand of backup vocals that have become a defining "sixth instrument" of Band-Maid. So exactly whose show was it? It was the Maid's show, as usual! 🤘🎀🤘Thx, Dave!

From what I've read and heard over the years, BAND-MAID will claim content, but they very rarely block reactions or give copyright strikes, even if the content isn't from their official KZfaq channel. They actually enjoy getting together to watch reactions and have recognized a few reactors at their concerts.

Interesting teaction. This is the first time I have ever heard a drummer say they don't listen to Band Maid because of the drumming? Akane is one of the top drummers in the world. I would have thought that fellow drummers would be inspired and not turned off by upper echelon talent? I play guitar but I never stopped listening to Randy Rhodes or Eddie VanHalen because they were so good? On the contrary, they inspired me to try be as good as them. Band Maid's complexity is what makes them one of the best bands in the world. They are a musician's band. That being said, I am glad ypu liked the song. Cheers 🤘

Yes, they use in ear monitors so they can lock into Kanami's backing track and be in sync with effects and lighting cues. Once Akane's got unplugged and they had to reset. Another time the airlines lost the luggage with the laptop. They just rearrange the set and the show went on. They were more worried about the sneakers they had bought in L.A. In 'Domination' LIVE you'll see them gather around the drums making funny faces at Akane to get her to laugh and make her f*ck up on the hard part. No chance! Once she's lock into the backing track she is unshakeable! The reason for that sort of Fight Club location is this was commissioned for the season two closing theme for the Netflix anime Kengan Ashura. You can hear it in the lyrics as well.

I think the main reason why Band Maid are looked at as a hard rock band, is that is what they refer to themselves as. On the old web page it said hard rock, now it says "An impossibly hard rocking". And yes I agree they do a few songs that sound very metal, but then they can also do the more softer style rock as well. I think the problem for us in the west is that in Japan the rock/metal lines are very blurred, and are more or less the same thing. Take Aldious they very much go the other way to Band Maid, they are a metal band that will do rock or even pop-punk tracks, and they look at it as a variation of the same style of music.

First time watching your content. Kudos to anyone who can listen to a track, stopping constantly to analyze in an opinion form, and missing the "feel" of the song and think they got it right. Analytics dont work for me unless I hear the entire song to see how each segment compliments each other before forming an opinion. Thats just my opinion. Im sorry but this kind of format is not for me but I hope you have more success in all you do. I also hope you continue to listen to BAND-MAID because you'll miss an amazing band and their story if you dont. Band-Maid "IS" the greatest ROCK band in the world today and arguably ever.

The drums caught your attention, so you started listening FOR the drums. The bass can be hypnotic like that as well. Or Kanami's lead work. Or the sometimes unexpected rhythm parts Kanami wrote for Miku. That's part of what makes B-M listenable far longer than most bands, the depth is extreme. I would suggest that non-musicians don't get caught up in any one instrument nearly so much. Nice coffee cup. Too bad for you London is red. ;)

Sometimes stopping too much can cause one to miss the overall context. Band-Maid rarely give copyright issues, especially if you stuck "reaction" if you stick it in the title. Be free to let larger portions play before going back to pull it apart. As for "in ears," Saiki, Miku and Akane do. Live, they all have wedge monitors in front of them.

Unfortunately even this video was copyright claimed and i have to dispute the claim an await a response. Not many videos ever get blocked or copyright striked but as with most of the videos on the channel i used to let the songs play from start to finish and they were all copyright claimed. I have over 2000 videos and make about £13 per month on the channel so i now break up the songs and discuss in more detail

@@DaveDoesmoviesandmusic not so sure in their case because they are very keen to be reacted to. Newer stuff might be easier because they have a tight rein on pony Canyon their current label. Miku does the negotiation, (she's vice champion of Japan at speed poker) they say "she gets everything she asks for plus the wallets and carkeys of everyone there". So the last couple of years might be better. Better heavier music too. Generally kanami tono composes traditionally on a score and Akane writes alternative drum parts on the drum machine. Kanami always writes stuff she can't play yet and has to practice and invariably chooses the hardest and heaviest drum part. They all put their piece in and rehearse until they are note perfect and then kanami makes them play faster. Unlike almost any rock drummer Akane doesn't rely on muscle memory, she has an image of the score in her mind's eye. Very neurodivergent band, and yes it's meant to be like that, they sell a beautifully illustrated full score of full albums. "Black Hole" is 220bpm and will give you an epileptic fit trying to follow the score. Just pick an instrument. 😁

Must be something in the water over in the UK, this is like the 2nd reaction channel from there that seems to hear something very different musically and the firt time I've ever heard a percussionist not appreciate Akane's choices and style. Percussion Reactors like Wave Potter and Drumroll Tony are usually praising her use of dynamics, the technical cleaness of her rolls and her ability to stay in the pocket. As well as how well she supports what her band mates are playing and how everything she does is in service of the song. Music is subjective but it still amazes me how differently individuals interpret what they hear. I dunno to each their own, I suppose. But I will say this; Misa has recently stated in interviews that the complex nature in which Band-Maid writes their music has forced her Bass Playing to change, evolve and adapt to meet the demands of the musical complexity now present. Perhaps this in turn forces Akane's to be more complex. Where a simple boom tap- boom boom tap, is no longer going to cut it and would seem weirdly extra basic and out of place

hey, I think that's fair. I don't think any style of making music is going to be everyone's favorite. There's definitely an audience that loves how full Band-Maid crams their songs with stuff (me!) but I don't blame anyone for preferring music that's less crowded, haha.

Great breakdown. Akane's drum style was the exact reason why I was drawn towards Band-Maid. I was always more drawn towards metal than hard rock, because I felt the drums in hard rock weren't busy enough. Akane turned that completely around. I'm curious, what do you think about the drum style of Jamie Saint Merat of Ulcerate?

Band-Maid tend not to copyright KZfaq reactors like yourself. The hard work of re-listening is worth it in my opinion. Yes the tracks are very technical and suit my taste. Saying that as you are a musician you are obviously coming from your own style and preference when listening to music. Band-Maid are their own genre, many reactors have tried and failed to pigeon hole their sound. As for people. People will always put thoughts in your head and words in your mouth.
