Yep. There are plenty of extremely skilled guitar players out there. But it’s a lot harder to write music like this. It’s natural born talent AND working your ass off.

@@risharddaniels1762 If you look at the state the world is in right now, you start to see Jeffrey Bezos has a point because an original thought/idea would have set us free from this tyranny a long time ago. People are brainwashed for decades by the media and the news. They've conditioned our thoughts in such a way that we "think" our thoughts are original yet they are not. They are merely a sum of everything we've have heard and learned as being the truth (their truth) This however, doesn't apply to music Jeffrey (and that could be part of the reason why Rishard responded) . . . there are still musicians that have original melody lines, syncopes in rhythms and progressions. Yes every note has been played a million times before, but it's the order and rhythm pattern in which you play them that makes them unique. Same goes for the limited amount of letters in the alphabet, I know for a fact that I can some up with a sentence that no one has ever said before in history: "my garden gnome wears shower curtains and smells the refridgerator magnet on the freezer while the canary escapes from it's cage". Every word is used hundreds of millions of times before, but never in this order. Same goes for some musicians like these guys or Dirty Loops for instance. I hope this makes sense, English is not my native language.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: What I love about Polyphia is that they do progressive music in a way that is accessible to everyone. A lot of prog bands get really crazy with polyrhythms and time signatures in ways that make the music kind of sound like garbage to people who don't have degrees from Juilliard. Polyphia's progressiveness doesn't necessarily come from that - they do use polyrhythms, but they always stay in 4/4 and their tempo never changes - their complexity comes more from their arrangement within that framework
@bobcieslinski
@bobcieslinski Жыл бұрын
Well said Spencer.
@vinceagashi1121
@vinceagashi1121 Жыл бұрын
Disagree about the degree thing. I think just having the ability to listen to a song instead of just hearing it is probably enough. I like Polyphia despite their lack of a lot of progressive elements. I know it's their thing and they are successful. But I think they would be a better band if they used more theory and experimented a bit more. I wonder if they will ever do a side project incorporating a bit more into their songwriting.

Its always so funny to see older musicians react to polyphia. I feel like they are a great band for people to connect with the modern rap/pop sound. Their instrumentals are so universal and their use of the 808 sub-bass fits perfectly to bridge the gap between nerdy/intricate guitar playing and an aggressive rap production.

If there's any chance for rock to survive into the next decade it's in music that resembles this. I've always said rock music needs to be stuff women can dance to, because the women bring the men, always.

Hey Bob! If you haven't heard of him, I'd love to see you check out Luca Stricagnoli. He plays a custom three-neck guitar with one neck being an upside-down acoustic bass. It's mind-blowing! I'll link two songs. It really _needs_ to be a song you're pretty familiar with, so do whichever song you know and like the best! Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZidnrynmLDWmok.html Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJyPe8-A1t-Wc2Q.html The _reason_ it needs to be a song you're reasonably familiar with is because he does very nearly a note-for-note cover of _all parts at once_ **including percussion!** You have to see it to believe it.
