Banda Singh Bahadur, born in 1670, was a prominent figure in Sikh history. He was a military commander, spiritual leader, and martyr who played a crucial role in shaping the Sikh faith and its struggle against oppression.
Banda Singh Bahadur began his journey as a disciple of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Under the Guru's guidance, he imbibed the principles of Sikhism and underwent rigorous military training. After Guru Gobind Singh's martyrdom and the persecution faced by Sikhs under the Mughal Empire, Banda Singh Bahadur emerged as a leader.
In 1709, Banda Singh Bahadur led a successful armed resistance against the Mughal forces and established Khalsa Raj, an independent Sikh state in Punjab. He captured important cities and implemented progressive measures such as land reforms and the abolition of oppressive systems.
However, his rule faced fierce opposition from the Mughal Empire. Banda Singh Bahadur and his forces were eventually captured in 1716 after a prolonged siege. He endured brutal torture and was executed in Delhi.
