It's like seeing a new building. Foundations. Not much happening. Boom, completed building overnight. So close to episode 6 I can almost taste it.

I liked watching these videos. Lots of fun techniques. Some similar to what I do, some completely different. I do have some disagreements on different aspects, some opinion, some just correct. :P One in this video that makes no sense, is you applied a red decal OVER some tubes. The different colored panels are replacement parts for the falcon, a tan, a dark gray, and a red freighter. It’s like when you see an old car with a different color door. It was a replacement from a different colored, same model car. The panel should be red, the tubes have nothing to do with the panel and should be regular gray. What you did would be akin to painting the chrome door handle red along with the door… 🤔 This is one of the great advantages of having the tubes modeled as separate pieces. 😃

ha ha, good spot, you are absolutely correct! Except...that you also aren't - wait, what? :) I was mostly reproducing the filming model, which has the tubes painted the same colour as the panel (tons of reference pics here: modelermagic.com/millennium-falcon-studio-model ). In real life, if the ship were real, what you say is perfectly logical as they would be replacement panels, but the decals represent the way the studio model was painted - for speed and screen, not for realism - they just masked off a square and airbrushed the whole area, pipes and all. Have a squiz at the pics at that link (specifically this one: modelermagic.com/millennium-falcon-studio-model/#jp-carousel-7685 ), you'll see what I mean :)

I noticed that the 4 small red decals on the upper center jaw box are placed not on the center but rather to the right side. It's due to bandai's technical printing error on the decal instruction page. Mr. Masa Narita seemed to make the same mistake on his first model by following the Bandai's misleading decal instruction but later corrected it on his second PG falcon model.

What spray topcoat are you using? I can’t stand the canned stuff anymore

I didn't actually use any at all, as the model will be a cabinet queen (when I eventually deliver it to the gang at eModels) and will rarely if ever be handled. But if I am airbrushing a varnish nowadays I use Vallejo Premium Matte Varnish (although I still use Humbrol 49 acrylic rattle-can if I am being lazy).

Are setting solutions only good for water decals or can they be used for sticker decals as well?

Decal setting solutions are only for waterslide decals, they are no use for stickers. The only thing you can really do with stickers is, if possible, throw them away and try and see if waterslides are available instead :)

Great video, but you do know that was the Canadian national anthem you had playing while George Bush was riding a shark, right? Thanks for introducing me to the Vallejo acrylic matt varnish. I've been looking for a clear coat that won't eat my decals.

Ha ha yes, I know, it's an old in-joke on my channel :) And you should absolutely try the varnish, it's excellent and easy to use.
