1. The cop misused his position. 2. The two thugs used their position. 3. The shopkeeper was used to his position. 4. The captive woman was used due to her position. 5. The jeep travellers used their position.

this 16minute short film is larger than entire career of some so called actors nowadays. Legends. Simply legends.

Each character is bypassing the other...just to get their hands on their ultimate destination: Money....that's another reading. Love the way the birds also behave in the same way...for food. Nice metaphors overall.

The two of the Indian cinema legends in one short film was the reason this is worthy of the ( watch ) time. Not to forget the other characters who played their part very nicely. Indeed a commendable work and a must watch. If you are looking for something other than bollywood, here it is.

Explanation - ( A kind of film that you won’t forget easily, ever. )...short story of some desert in remote Rajasthan, far away from civilization, and story of its dwellers - some bandits (Nawazuddin , Sundar.), a cop (Irrfan Khan), and scavenger birds living off the dead. The film starts off with a close shot of a scavenger bird feeding on some carrion, shortly followed by a speeding, rose-decorated, white car with a happy, newlywed couple. The car accidentally swerves towards a strange bypass in the middle of that desolate desert. They continue their journey, unaware of the danger that awaits them. ( Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a bandit who robs the unsuspecting travelers along with Sundar Dan Detha ). They are both waiting somewhere on that bypass, hiding in the sand dunes to rob the next passing vehicle. As expected, they do attack the car and rob the couple, pocket the cash, and just when Nawazuddin is about to grab the expensive watch from the groom’s wrist, Sundar alerts him about the approaching motorbike of the police officer Irrfan Khan, and the duo run away to hide. The cop, Irrfan inspects the incident site of the robbery, and when he is leaving on his motorbike, the groom’s watch has changed hands - the cop is wearing it; while we are still coming to terms with the shock of that ghastly crime. After running away, Nawazuddin and Sundar walk to the nearby eatery unaware of Irrfan’s presence there, who is forcing himself on a captive woman inside a room nearby. As they are having their meals, Nawazuddin hears a scream and shortly the cop emerges from that room. ( - one has to see Irrfan’s body-language to believe how convincingly he portrays corrupt and rotten to the core cop in this scene. ) Before the duo could leave, the unavoidable clash between these bandits and the cop takes place, resulting in few more gruesome killings. The bandits notice the scared, captive woman, Nawazuddin lustfully tries to fondle her, but as he senses her resistance, with a little nod of his head he lets her go. Again, one must watch how effortlessly he displays wide range of emotions in this scene subtly without a single dialogue. The groom’s watch lying in the blood changes hands again. The bandits return to the sands looking for their next victims in the scorching sun, Nawazuddin’s hand now adorns the watch he had set his eyes on earlier. With another twist and another smash cut, the film comes to an end. Karma plays on, the jinxed watch changes hands yet again. The significance of the opening frame unfolds. ( - the creatures living off the dead truly embody ghost of the desert.)

The continuity will be continuing.. & what a paradox! Where only dumb is speaking & all are silent! Haven't seen such a dark silent short film! Every character was at his best; but I loved dumbed...!!!

Who needs dialogues when you have two legendary actors whose eyes and expressions speaks volumes? Fabulous screenplay and crisp editing. Such meaningful short stories are short in supply but explain the true meaning of cinema. Absolutely loved it ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Having Irrfan is enough to make this a great movie.

After watching the film, I'm genuinely surprised (or maybe I shouldn't be) to have read quite a few comments disliking the film. I mean seriously? I see nothing wrong with this film at all in terms of story and theme. People really need to understand the difference between commercial and genuine cinema. At least don't hate the film and the crew if you don't understand the film. Also goes to show why these two actors (May God rest Irffan's soul) are where they are in terms of career. If people don't understand a film without lines then they should quietly move on. This isn't your cup of chai.

The watch going from one hand to the other can also be seen as a metaphor for the changing, ever moving hands of a clock. In a way it is saying that the time changes, everybodys time comes.. the circle completes.. what you've done to others comes back to you through another person's hand. Also, the metaphor of creatures feeding on each other to survive in a habitat that does not nourish them. A barren place where there's no vegetation, meaning no life - both literally and metaphorically because the people here feed on each other to stay alive and even after that they are hardly alive from inside - their human desires(nawazuddin's desire for intimacy), conscience.. all killed and buried long ago in the desert sand. The cinematography is so good.. so real. I've never seen the desert captured so well, like it has a life of its own.. you can feel it on your own body.

Just loved it.. in between i was thinking why women are always shown weak but then the ending made me happy.. the spark in Nawaj's eyes.. amazing film 💕💕

Such an intense film. And perfectly delivered without a single dialogue. Hats off the the people behind this masterpiece.

Acting is always in between lines... When 2 legends are casted then u can expect a lot... No dialogues but still speak volumes... 🔥🔥🔥

Take aways- Don't trust stone road marks, trust only government road marks, when alone be alert, when in trouble Don't get nervous and don't trust anybody in Strange places for lifts.

Saw this on channel 4 late night many years ago. Always stuck with me. Excellent short. RIP Irrfan Khan.

Silent tremors of overwhelming crime threads through our world. The criminals and the (crime) patrolman all are prisms of one attitude which is blind and deaf to anything like a word "conscience". I came across this film just by chance and started watching in curiosity...then oh my god remained spellbound and palpitating to watch the crudest levels of violence.It's gruesome yet it drags one into it..many may find it meaningless for this chain of violence ... yet it makes an impact with its ruthlessness. Enigma! ✍

Absolutely Thrilling! Superb acting. Not a word was spoken yet it kept the viewers glued to the edge of their seats... for the entire 16 minutes, which felt almost like an eternity. Cudos to the Production Team!

I think this shows the scarscity, the whole is ambience is the evidence of it, the desert, at first glance it looks like the scarcity of resources, the way they manicaly collect, loot and trade things even the things that are mostly unecessary for them, the the glasess, unlike the inspector other charachters are deprived of resources they need to survive, so they are in the desert but the inspector is here for pure greed, even though its shown that nawaz's charachter was desperate for sex, but still he not saved her life but also let her go, in a way librated her from prostitution, this shows the the human side of them , the state they want to be in ,and they will reach the state after crossing the desert, the heavenly side of the life, but you cant reach their by bypassing the desert only option is to try to cross it, hence nobody takes the bypass, but tjis sxarcity os not about resources but about the scarcity of one's own life , hence the strong need the survive no matter how abundent the resources are, often come up as greed which means not only you cant bypass survival but maybe also dont want to. And also the way eveyone team up their also, nobody played solo, also shows the scsrcity for one's own life.
