Starting a new series where I talk about up-and-coming bands. Today we're talking about the Orange County band Julie. Some punk/shoegaze elements with indie-like vocals. An awesome band I think everyone should check out.

been loving julie for the past year year and a half and now that i have a band of my own and am getting into producing music from home- i can really appreciate them even more! they are phenomenal and still making new sounds despite how long genres similar to theirs have been around and thats IMPRESSIVE! its seriously crazy to me how hard it is to make your own sound and they're doing amazing at it!

The major influence I hear is the Swirlies, a hugely underrated Boston band from the early 90s who had their own spin on a MBV sound. Which is great, because not enough bands have picked up that baton [sic] and run with it. (Check out the Swirlies album Blondertongueaudiobaton from 1992!)

Lush are huge shoes to compare to and their guitar work sounds more like Swervedriver influenced than anything else.

Welcome to my world in 1987. Then, Throwing Muses, Wedding Present, Pixies. Later Lush, Ride, MBV, Stone Roses, Etc. We seem to be into another era of wide musical genres that are linked by the realisation that ''straight' music is inherently wrong and conditioned.

I really like Julie but I am concerned about their output. Just a single in over 2 years... I hope they have the material for a full album soon because it would suck to see these guys stagnate.
