With the sound it's the way B&O are, they favour natural tuning and accuracy over everything else out of the box, handy to have the Beosonic in the app to fine tune for personal taste. Thanks for the great review! A no-brainer at 200€ today here in Finland. Pretty good sale. Got the PC/Playstation version, that comes with 2 dongles, one for PC and one for Playstation. Didn't this Xbox version come with a PC dongle back in the day couple of years ago? Or does the Xbox dongle work with Windows directly?

The connectivity to XBox is why I’m looking at these over others. But it’s not my primary reason and I’m really looking for a high end pair of headphones for music and travel. The fact that these do pair to XBox though is why I’m looking at these instead of Bose or even Apple ProMax’s. Appreciate the review.

I agree 100% with what you said. As a Penrose and Portal owner, I won't lie about sound quality - the Penrose wins (especially on the default profile) but for everything else, the Portal wins. For example, playing Forza with these headphones for a few hours - no problem, with the Penrose you can't last more than half an hour without taking a break.

Bought mines Day one. Best headset I’ve ever had sound wise which I expected but what I didn’t expect was the in game chat performance. They nailed these. Glad Microsoft is going hi end with all their peripherals

Just bought the Xbox Wireless Headset but I’m putting the Beoplay Portal on my Christmas list.... that blue & gold version looks stunning. Dolby Atoms is a game changer, even when just watching movies!!

Brilliant review, and the only one I could find that confirms that you can use the USBC directly with the PlayStation 5 (I assume this also charges via their PS5). Sounds perfect, wireless with atmos on Xbox, and wired with PS5’s built in surround. Great stuff.

I got these about a week ago and love them, great sound quality, very comfortable and easy to setup and use with XBox. I did struggle for a while on the price but I am glad I got them. All the features you mentioned here and the little details make it worth the cost.

I just bought a Corsair Virtuoso XT 17 days ago before watching this video. I bought this yesterday because of this video, via Amazon, and will be delivered tomorrow, can't wait. I won't be using this for XBOX but for a gaming laptop that has an OLED screen. I only play WoW TBC Classic so I'm going to use this for music and movies so I'm hoping it does well for all three.

Very informative. I think I might hold out for something like a MS Elite Headset. I really like the features in the $99 headset, just looking for higher sound quality.

Fantastic review, you apologized for making the review "long", but please don't, because this is the only review I've found so far that goes in-depth on a lot of the features that the headset has. I'm very interested in this headset, but at $500 I'd only be able to justify it if I can use it as my gaming, commuting, and work headphones, and this is the only review that actually answers that question. You mentioned that the headset doesn't get overly loud, but to give me a point of reference, what volume level do you settle in at when you play? 80%, 90%, 60%? I tend to like my volume a little bit higher than the average person, so knowing the threshold you're comfortable with would give me a good idea of if these will be loud enough. Thanks again for the review. If B&O are reading this, I don't need to listed to podcasts on BT or anything, but if you could just allow the headphones to pass on text/call notifications that would be awesome!

Just got a pair for $250 brand new based on your recommendation. They're quite good so far, but I don't think they're worth $500. At $250 they are pretty awesome though. The sound is great and they're exactly what I wanted, a do it all headset for my Xbox and PC/phone. Great review!

Awesome Review! I got mine 2 days ago. It was a pain setting it up for Xbox game mode. The reason why is because Android's B&O app has yet to update it (I have a Note 10+). The iOS B&O app is ready to rock. You have gave me so much more information for PS5 with the DAC mode, which I didn't know. I used it only with the AUX cable to the controller. Thanks again and I ca'n't wait to see if you will have EQ settings in the future like you did with the Xbox Wireless Headset.

Thanks for the detailed review. The tip about connecting to Playstation through USB was an especially good tip. I'm still trying to decide between Bang & Olufsen Portal and Penrose X. The Penrose X seems more performance for the money, but the convenience and slick design of the Portal is so nice.

Best review on this headset by far..at the moment I'm using both the audio technica ATH-AG1X and the turtle beach Elite pro 2 with Dac. When I want to hear crisp flat sounds are used the ATH when I want to hear extremely loud I use the ELITE pro 2. SO SINCE YOU SAID THAT THESE WEREN'T THAT LOUD I'M HOLDING OFF ON MY PICTURES I THOUGHT THESE ARE GOING TO BE EXTREMELY CRISP AND EXTREMELY LOUD I RATHER JUST STAY WITH THE SETUP I HAVE CURRENTLY. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

You can listen to music as well on Spotify app on the Xbox and still play the game use the slider for perfect volume

Wife just got her headset yesterday. Super clean mid and high. No punch it's flat you right about that. To restrain we will see if I can juice these with some turning. But those foots steps come in clean.

Portal issues Sound quality is great but i have encountered many issues. I would like to include the issues I'm experiencing because I have watched alot of reviews and these issues have either not been brought up or experienced. • Audio cuts in and out on xbox and P.C. (Worst on P.C.) • Sound cuts out if pushed to max on headset (Not if adjusted on app) • No noise gate setting • Tested mic and voice sounds far away • Tested mic and background noise is very noticeable. Bottom presses can be heard on the controller • Voice/game volume mixer does not work on P.C. • Settings do not save when headset is turned or or after switching modes • Audio cue needs to be louder when voice/game mixer is maxed or in the middle • Volume cues would be nice at 1/2 and max volume. • No command to end calm only answer • No command for next/previous song.

I was told from the B&O website that the headset does have multi wireless connectivity to multiple devices.

Is the 3D audio effect comparable to the PS5 Pulse headphones or maybe even better? Check out the Audeze Penrose X for $299. Planar magnetic, closed back. Doesn’t have ANC, but has BT and wireless Xbox/PC simultaneous connections. Been using them since launch, and I think that it’s probably better bang-for-buck as an audiophile headset.

I am dreaming to have one of this phones really for my mobile games. One dolar is around 13.5 above my currency, so cant afford it. Damn soooo good headphoes and very detailed review, thank you man.

They hook up to PC through bluetooth as well for audio , just FYI you don't need a USB dongle.

Ok an update. Bought the navy color after your review. Only 2 things: B&O updates in firmware to allow track skipping in touch controls, and to have a good B&O carry case like the HX for sale for those we would like to travel with the Portal.

Great review! But I'm wondering, will dolby atmos also work between other devices and the portal? It works with with the xbox series but my LG smart tv suports it to. So if I watch a movie on the netflix app on my TV that is shot with dolby atmos, will it work with the portal headphone to?

I've had these for two weeks. So far the audio quality is fine. But, you cannot hear yourself while in a party. That is inexcusable at this price. I have the LucidSound LS35x and the mic on those is vastly superior. Sound wise they are very comparable. The Lucids are louder and the clarity while not as good as the B&Os is very close. I'll keep the B&Os but I'm highly disappointed in the mic. Hopefully it will receive an update. The Dolby app integration is wonderful. And the adjustments are great for movies and gaming. Battery life at 13 hours I've tested is not great but I haven't noticed that it's a hassle, I always plug them in when I'm done. Noise cancellation is good but the mic, again is poor at picking up your voice so when you're speaking in a game you feel like you're under water. I don't know how you got to hear your own voice as I've tried everything and cannot hear myself at all compared to the LucidSound LS35s. Overall I'm happy with the sound clarity and quality but the mic is annoying as hell. Your friends will hear EVERYTHING! Especially if you're eating something the wrapper sounds like a train crashing into a nitroglycerin truck. So not sure how you say you can hear yourself and your friends can't hear background noises. So I do love the sound quality, but their lack of gaming experience shows in the mic array. Compared to the Xbox wireless headset which is garbage this is on another level. I have several high end cans (Grado reference, Grado 325s, AKG K812s, etc) and for sound quality these are great. For chat on the Xbox, not hearing myself clearly kinda annoys the shit out of me. IMO I would get the LucidSound LS35x as they're only $125. These are exceptional for sound positioning for sure, but that mic. Ugh. Really good detailed review. Edit. I've kept track of my success, especially in CoD and I've been crushing because of the directionality is so clear.
