There are three things you need to make BANG! The Dice Game work: - _At least_ six players - _At least_ three non-gamers - Alcohol If you're trying to play BANG! The Dice Game with your regular group of hardcore nerds, it'll likely be way too random, way too fast, and not nearly deep enough to keep your attention. If you break out BANG! The Dice Game at your kid's birthday party right at the point when the grown-ups are finishing their second or third beers, you may find it _far_ more enjoyable.

This was a good explanation of a fun came and theme. I made a solo mode I'll share a video of in the future. I took the components and turned it into a fast-paced shootout between two characters or 2 players. So there's no party game hidden cards. It's the dice icons taking on new meanings.

Hi John, this is one of the reasons I like your reviews. I can listen to your neutral and negative points and then: A) disagree, in which case I can get the game B) assess whether some house rules can resolve/reduce those negative or neutral points (if the game otherwise pools fun and interesting). I did this with your review of Alien Frontiers (we play with your suggested end-game condition, catan-like first to 10/9/8 points in a 2/3/4 player game respectively)... has worked excellently, thanks! In the same way, I think the 2 main issues you raise here can probably be resolved: 1) on a player's FIRST roll of their turn, they must only keep 1 dynamite, whatever number they roll. So they still get to make at least 1 decision in that turn (of course if they have 3 dynamite after their 2nd roll... tough luck, it was their choose to roll again or not. 2) Simply boost each players health eg by 3, at game start. When you heal, u can only heal maximum to the health on your character card (not an extra 3, that was just a t game setup). Although this rule may not be necessary, because other reviewers state the game can go on too long due to all the healing ppl do! Either way, thanks as always! Regards, Salman

Those are interesting ideas, though I haven't owned this game for many many years so I won't have a chance to try them. Glad you find these useful even though I don't make videos like this anymore :)

This is my FAVORITE casual game. I think your group may be over thinking it, or are too competitive. I have played this with many people, and I've only had one person say that it wasn't better then the card game. I also like the random. It means that one person can't just railroad someone. I grew up on Yahtzee though.

I work with international groups and many of these kids can't read English. Can I play this without the characters' special powers, so that we don't have to read the cards?

I don't see why not, they add a good amount to the game with their asymmetry but aren't vital in order for the game to work.

A good and informtive review Jon. Despite the negatives you give I've watched a few reviews now and I decided I'll love this game.(I like it being quick) But since me and my group are really casual gamers I'm not sure what should we buy first. We need a game we can play on parties, some quick games in the morning, a game to close the night whith whoever is still up , and such occasions. (seing it's a quick game we might need 2 for this one) We will be playing probably in group of 4-6 people. We also like dedution. The other game we are wondering on is King of Tokyo. I know both games are fun but the question is which one should we buy first? What would you recomend? Bang TDG or King of tokyo? The game should be suitable for introduction to table top gaming as there are people comming in and out of the group, we need something quick, easy, interesting. I'd be very thankful for recomendation, which is more suitale for us - Bang TDG or King of Tokyo? Thanks in advance. :)

I've definitely had way more fun playing King of Tokyo vs Bang TDG, but that doesn't mean that i'd recommend it first for your situation. I've played fast 15-20 minute games of KoT and i've also had several games go over 60 minutes before. There is zero deduction in KoT vs a small amount in Bang TDG, so this also makes me think that Bang might make more sense for your group. Both games have player elimination, however in Bang TDG you have the possibility of still winning even though you have been killed which may appeal to your group. KoT is a better game in my opinion, but Bang TDG will likely be a better experience overall for your group considering how quick you want the games to go as well as being very entry level. I feel a bit awkward about this recommendation of course considering we really didn't like Bang TDG much at all. Our group really enjoyed "Shadow Hunters" as an entry level deduction game that has some actual meat to it while still slinging dice around and making wild accusations. It tends to play more like 40ish minutes but we have used it as a filler, evening ender, and gateway game for new people countless times and enjoyed it far more then Bang TDG. I hope this helps :)

JonGetsGames Thanks for the answer mate. :) Yeah I guessed it will be a bit awkward recomending a game you didn't really enjoy. Personaly I've never seen much of Shadow Hunters, a mate once told me he thinks it gets too long and people might get bored, so I haven't considered it. I put up Bang, the other mate more into games said we need KoT and thanks to you I think I might get the upper hand here and we will buy it. TBH we will probably buy KoT in the near future too. Again thank you for the good response, I'll make sure to get more info on Shadow Hunters,it might be our next game. :) P.S. Wanna say I've already watched few of your vids and it was enough for me to sub, keep the good content up. :) It's funny how a random search can get you to a channel you might end up enjoying. Cheers!

Galloglaoch One other thing to note about KoT is that the sequel (not expansion) is coming out at GenCon this week called "King of New York". There isn't a ton known about it yet, but they are not compatible and from the sneak peaks it very well could be a better game overall. So if you end up thinking about going with King of Tokyo i'd at least wait until you see some hard information about it's newer and potentially better sibling.

JonGetsGames Good call. I completely forgot King of New York was a thing. I'll be keeping and eye out for information about it Also one thing I frogot to ask about Bang. I don't know if you've tried it this way but I the game good with less people? Are the roles still a good idea when you are 4-5 people? I've tried KoT with 4 and it was fun, but I like the theme of bang thats why I'm advocating for it. But it will be important for the group that the game is still enjoyable with 4-5 people as we never know who'll be up for a game, So yeah, it is important if the game keeps it's value with less people. (So I guess I'm asking were you equally unimpressed with the game playing with 4-5 or 6-8 people :D )

Galloglaoch We played with 3 and that was honestly really bad, this game definitely does better with more people. A 4 player game will most likely be lackluster in comparison to 6-7 people simply because it will be over so fast. A turn usually takes about 30seconds and we found that people started dying off after about 3 turns so in a 4 player game that means some people are dead after 5 minutes and the whole game will most likely be over after 8-10 minutes. A filler needs to be quick but this definitely felt too quick to me. You still seem to have an average of 4ish turns before you are dead regardless of the player count, but with more players at least there would be abit more time to figure out who is which roll. I'd also like to say regarding Shadow Hunters, that yes it can occasionally drag on abit, but it has REAL deduction. I find that vastly more fun then "Werewolf/Mafia" style deduction that Bang TDG lends itself towards, which is actually negotiation and bluffing and not really deduction at all.

Hi Jon When playing with a larger group (6-8) I have found the game does last longer. In my experience discussion between players happens as soon as the role cards are dealt and continues throughout the game. The random nature of the die is a bitch, but then that's the point of dice games no? The idea is that it is a quick game and I disagree with what you are saying here about it being over too quickly, some games last 20+ minutes with us, some are 15 or so. You make mention of the 15 minutes on the box and then moan that it doesn't last longer than that... huh? I think your group needs to give itself over to the more random nature of the game. It's a shame that I reckon and your expectations were just way too high on this, it's a game you play at the pub with mates or to end a game night when there are few people still kicking round. Perhaps use it as an intro game to those who aren't so keen on table top games? Keep up the hard work on your videos. Ryan

Thanks for the feedback, you make some interesting points. It is true that the box does say 15 minutes, I guess part of the issue was coming in with incorrect expectations. I only played one 7 person game, but my room mate tried a couple times with that many and he said it fell flat those times as well. The game in those cases took longer then 15 minutes, but the decisions to be made in the game time allotted left everyone who we tried it with underwhelmed. My group likes deduction games, but most of us want data to back up our accusations and it sounds like in order to really enjoy this game you need to be in more of a "Mafia/Werewolf" mind set. I know i'm in the minority with this opinion, and honestly that makes me glad. I love games and the idea that most people are having fun with this one even when I am not is great :) Jon

As explained, Jon, you got some important rules wrong about surviving players and endgame conditions. Also, I'm just assuming that you were playing this fun little dice game in a sober environment and a group full of gamers. I'm not sure that this game was made for these situations. Maybe you don't have to be intoxicated, but I can see that it would be hard to review this game in a playing environment where you're also reviewing more serious games as well.

0:40 - The OUTLAWS win the game as soon as the sheriff dies, regardless of how many RENEGADES or DEPUTIES are left! They only need to kill the sheriff. For the Renegades to win, they must kill the Sheriff AFTER all the outlaws are dead; so it is in their interest to keep the Sheriff alive in the beginning. This adds an interesting dynamic as the Renegades may also be acting like a deputy by healing the Sheriff. Man, you're trying to explain the game and can't even get the base win conditions right! Such an awful video for that very reason.
