This absolutely rocks. The guitar is awesome, heavy and upfront in the mix and, by jove, can Vicki wield that axe! These women are goddesses!

I have always been a Bangles fan, but it wasn’t until that long ago that I started buying used copies of their records. And yes, they still tour sporadically, I wish I could see them in concert!

I do not think they have appeared together since 2019, pre-pandemic. They’re all busy with individual projects and appearances though.

One of my very favorite Bangles songs. Sadly, it remains somewhat obscure and overlooked.

These girls rocked harder than we were led to believe in the 80s. I always appreciated their hits but now as I am about to hit 50, I am appreciating the musicianship and energy they had (or have).

I agree. I am susanna's age and I remember Manic Monday, Egyptian on MTV and the radio. It was as if they were ms. Hoff's and her backup band. As for the go gos I liked because their hits were catchy and I had a crush on Jane Weidlin. But I think, thanks to KZfaq, the Bangles are a better band. IMO Vicki Peterson is one of Rock's best guitarist. All four are incredible musicians. Also, their producers,/ managers could have promoted Micheal Steele more- great bass player, pretty, beautiful singing voice.

Michael Steele is a bass goddess. Her technique is so unique and precise, I could listen to her playing forever and it wouldn‘t be enough. It‘s a real shame she never released a solo record.

Yes, Michael Steele’s bass playing, especially in this early part of this performance, was an excellent part of the Bangles’ sound.

Also her tone. She really digs in with that pick. Whoever engineered her tone did a great job, especially for the 80's.

This is a great, often forgotten entry in their excellent body of work. I’m glad they included it in their setlist at least up to this point in performing career. It really should have been released as a single with a video - instead, in my opinion, of “Hero Takes a Fall” from the same album, “All Over the Place.”

This is the true sound of the Bangles. The original sound on "All Over the Place" is more pop. Here they're really rockin it. You can tell by the distorsion on Vicki's guitar. And Michael's bass lines are the epitome of cool. Debbi's drumming inmaculate. And Susanna....well Susanna, with her cool tamborine and Rickenbacker. That's how they really sound. On the records is how the producers want them to sound. Vicki composed it, and FYI, she must have a terrible beef with some guy named James in her life. I love the Bangles, but I'm in love with Susanna, always have been.

For sure, Place is much more “clean”, although interestingly you can hear even Vicki’s riff part way through the album version. Nothing beats live

during the harmony in the break-down around 1:38 (beautiful as always with these girls!), anyone else notice you can't hear Vicki? when you listen any other version, old and new (boot-legs sometimes), you can hear Susanna AND Vicki singing "down, do-o-own - let me down down down down". here I only hear Susanna. would that be M.T.V. turning Vicki down, attempting to bring the vocal focus to Sue?

Has a vintage rock sound, like it could've penned by Buddy Holly. Also has elements of country, especially guitar riff just before the second verse and the bridge. Vicki's playing the hell outta that lead guitar! During an SNL retrospective, former cast member Al Frankel introduced a look back at their performance of Hazy Shade of Winter by sarcastically saying something about admiring their musicianship, the joke being that wasn't their strong point. This shows how utterly unfair that was.
@meatwad14 жыл бұрын
I didn't see the Al Franken clip. Instead of saying the band wasn't respected for their musicianship, he may have been jokingly implying that he found them attractive.

on the last verse, does she say "take this SHIT for so long"? or is it "trip" like the album? It sounds like it sometimes in newer recordings (anyone know about those?), but what about here?
@the_tone71674 жыл бұрын
Ha! Yes! Sue definitely says "I can only take this SHIT for so long" on the last verse. I've watched this video a few times and I never noticed that. Nice catch!
@ImperialRadioYT4 жыл бұрын
@@the_tone7167 Do you hear it then? I know she does in recent years; you can hear it in audience-shot videos. but here, they're young, less-known, and more "by-the-book" for lack of a better phrase. would she swear in this too? It is however her favorite swear; you can hear her say it all the time, old and new, ha ha

Thank God she didn't concentrate. We had far too much of that finger tapping and busy shit in the 80's. It seemed as if every guitarist of the era was trying to copy him--everything from the way they played, even the equipment he used. At least 50 % of the people who played guitars in the 80's played a super strat with a humbucker in the bridge position and a Floyd Rose on it. I was sick of that by 1985 and it continued until the Seattle bands exposed those bands for the pathetic jokes that they were. I've had enough of Eddie Van Halen and his many imitators for five lifetimes.

@7855waldo You're right. He's a clown. But I had to take the opportunity to counter to stupid comment. Unfortunately he is influential, given that many left-wing political junkies and book-buyers think he's brilliant. Nice to have this forum to vent and express one's opinion.
