this song is 'bai tharo kesariyo hazari gul ro phool' and it talks about the wishes of a good life ahead of his sister by a brother. Yes it also talks about maadliyon(amulet or medallion) pertaining to Lord Krishna to protect her happiness(husband i think) from buri nazar.

allot of the rajasthan/romani music is so enthralling+most beautiful dresses!---ive heard that the desert snakes inspired their dance+movements,+ notice near all rajstan/romi vids have men playing those snake charming horns !just amazing music+visual! these rajastan/romani people are just one of many sanskrit-derived people based in pakistan-india-bangladesh [sindhi, bengali, gujrati, panjabi, marathi, etc,,hindi+urdhu of cours].only differnce is allot of romani left old india.

@MzKatitzi I live in the U.S. and am learning about the Roma and their culture for the first time. I LOVE the music, dance, and costume! I am particularly interested in the Gitano of Andalusia. I can see how this Indian origin had an influence on the development of Flamenco. Wonderful stuff! (Don't ask how this American, with Irish ancestry got interested in the Romani. I can't explain. LOL) Watching the girl in the black dress is like watching a kaleidoscope. Amazing!

This is so interesting, please pay attention to the beginning of the video. I think it has a special message. The way they started making music out of some random sounds is very important. In flamenco, a gorgeous rythm named "MARTINETE" was born exactly as the video shows. Out of small sounds from hammers and other tools for labour. And well.. flamenco is very well known as a dance and culture from the gypsy culture. Excellent job!

these are kalbelia's from thar desert of India which is in state of Rajasthan. They are nomads and iron smiths. History goes that they own their alligience to Maharana Pratap who lost Mewar in battle of haldighati to Akbar. He swore never to settle on any land except Mewar. He could never defeat Akbar and died a nomad. His kinsmen decided to keep his word and till date remain nomads. They are fun loving folks with talents for music and dance. They travel all over Rajasthan in their caravans,

Desichhokri is an amazing handle to have, congrats and thanks for your comment. I would like to say something about the word "Gypsy" and why it has been used. The generic term for Nomads from the Thar is Banjaras in India - the closest English approximation is the word Gypsy. As you can see the title does refer to them as Banjaras.

@AryaVarta glad to hear/read that someone knows about our history :) its true that we "european" gipsys all come originally from India. The first group of Roma-People came to Sweden in the 1500-centurys. Sadly, most countrys in europe truly hate us and wants us to leave.

The real banjaras are the community like lambadi, lamani , lavan, labhan etc who are nomadic traders, merchants and transporters of goods. Because they are nomadic and well-known community that's why people started calling other nomadic community as banjaras. Banjaras/vanjaras means traders . Ex : lambadi means trades of salt . Don't mistake real banjaras with these people, people used to call them as banjaras because they think banjara means nomadic, they have their own community names. The banjaras (traders/transporters) are a semi nomadic community.
