Truck did great. It rained and snowed later in the day when it was our time to race. So driver Mike Ryan couldn't go 100%, but he did an awesome job. Had to take it easy in the corners but hammered it in the straights. Next year, weather permitting, we will be back to destroy the record!
A couple things we'd like to point out... those spectators at 0:59 are crazy close to the track! And at 2:27 you can see that yes, it was indeed very wet up there when we ran.

Someone asked why his hands are strapped. Its a safety item incase of a crash his arms dont flail about and possibly go out the window and get crushed. Lots of motor sports use them

What a rush driving that thing had to be. And Gale Banks is the man when it comes to diesel power. And the guy was 72 when they did this. Now he’s 78 and still building these motors.

It sure as hell looked like he went all out!!! People crash at 40 mph after it rains and nascar can't run on any damp surface. This is some really great skill and talent!!!!!!!

Note there's also a supercharger to make lagless boost (and also to compress even more the air previosly compressed in the turbo). It surely takes damn much experience and balls to drive such a monster on a pikes peak road with such slippery conditions... Respect!

Not trying to one up you but I wanted to do this over 40 years ago. People would look at me and say "I hope you can do it but I don't want to ride....well, everyone but my best friend who had been racing me since he was 11 and I was 12. We did this everyday going home from school....pickup racing. Once we had driver's licenses at 14, we could do it without sweating it so much. I don't recall either of us wrecking anything. We lived, ate and slept Sports Car Graphic, Car and Driver and Hot Rod. I used to ride with my BIL when I was 10 and he was 14. Helped him drop a big Merc, engine into a 46 Ford pickup. It would spin one tire about halfway to the edge of the county ha ha. A Pious(virtue signal) would disappear from it quickly now but we thought it was fast and it had a hell of an exhaust note, half the fun.

@@JazzyAnasazi well look in the CJ news archive they did a story on the one I built when I had my shop there it was nothing like Mikes is but there was no class to race it in we ran it for exhibition a couple of times at the local track but no one else wanted to get involved bobtail racing has never caught on in the US a couple of years ago they tried to get it going but they had like 8 teams just for one season saying it was affordable was just not the case .

The dust and other things cars were kicking up would get into all the water that flows from the mountain and dirty up the water supply. So they paved it.

Dude, it's supercharged and turbocharged, hence: Super-Turbo. the sound might still be from the gears, but then those are the loudest gears I've ever heard!

I wonder if they can take some engineering from the gmc topkick 2003+ ones that they can make it a 4wd without lifting it any and maybe turn up the power more, that extra traction could cut off a few seconds in each turn.

I would love to see a down tuned version of this truck built for the Dakar or Africa Eco Race. The Russians, who dominate and have amazing trucks and engines would have their work cut out for them. I don't say this often, even at all, but good job, Americans. American can be all about muscle cars and burnouts but they can also, sometimes, mixed their love of torque and with some finesse and high levels of engineering, and transform it into something truly amazing...
