BANZAI DROP | The Yokozuna Story (Full Career Documentary)
► TWITTER.COM/WRESTLEWITHANDY
WRESTLEWITHANDY
WWE has always been a babyface promotion when it comes to its top stars. While WCW might have found success having the likes of Ric Flair and Hollywood Hogan go through long runs as a heel champion, Vince McMahon’s company has traditionally chosen to push big heroic stars like Steve Austin and John Cena as their top guys instead. That’s why Yokozuna represents something of an anomaly then because he was the first real unbeatable heel that the boss decided to portray as his top dog, going through all his big stars and even killing Hulkamania in the process. But how did he get to this point? Well join us today as we take a deep dive into his entire career journey in Banzai Drop: The Yokozuna Story.
THANK YOU!!!

In 2000, Yoko dropped his weight down from 802 pounds to 580 pounds. His healthy weight was around 400 pounds. That means he would need to lose another 200 pounds if he wanted to wrestle again. If he had lived and came back during the Attitude or Ruthless Aggression Era, I would have like to see him team up with Undertaker again and fight Kane. Yoko and Undertaker were best friends in real life but sadly we never saw much of that in the ring, although they did team up once in 1996.

And instead of Akebono, we would’ve had Yoko vs Big Show at Wrestlemania 21. Imagine if Yoko was also involved in that 2007 match full of giants (Kane, Big Daddy V, Khali, and Mark Henry)

Yoko vs Vader was amazing to me growing up. It was like watching a Godzilla movie come to life on the small screen. When they squared off at the start and threw punches it was so loud that to this day I haven't heard such powerful strikes. And seeing Yoko give Vader a samoan drop and a belly-to-belly was just glorious! I was so upset when Vader "broke" Yoko's leg. But later Yoko fought Vader again and smashed Vader's leg!

The stories about Yokozuna in his last years alive are just depressing. While he was a very friendly and great guy, he clearly didn't give a shit about how obese he was and just wanted to stay fat forever, and these poor decisions cost him his life at a very young age. If he had taken the advice he was given, he probably would have still been alive today or at least lived a while longer and had a greater run in the WWE and possibly other organizations.

It was at some point in 1998 in Las Vegas, promoter Buffalo Jim had his BWF (like the shirt Yoko is wearing) promotion/wrestling school going on and a friend and I went to a show. He was clearly past his prime and far too big, but I remember marvelling at the speed and skill with which he threw punches and sold them. No, Honda was created b4 Yoko showed up. If anything Honda inspired the virtua fighter one. What Yoko did tho was create a nice Japanese fan base.

Rest In Peace to my favorite wrestler of all time! ✌️ ❤ If he had dropped the weight, I would’ve loved to see him and Rikishi form a tag team. “The Body Smashers” they could’ve been called.

Tbf The Hogan Yoko at Wrestlemania moment was a perfect example of Hogan throwing his weight around backstage and wasn't the original plan.
