When all of that compounds, the substance becomes habitual to escape or numb oneself, now you’re addicted. This is naturally cyclical behavior that never ends unless one gets external help. That is why most Christians I know don’t drink, they don’t want to put themselves needlessly in that position. They don’t dislike anyone that drinks, they choose not to.
