The prime of Maniratnam is behind him, his last gem is Kannathil Muthamital, and AE/Yuva was the beginning of his fall, i'm a huge fan of him and for the only one who surpass him in terms of making is Vetrimaran, Rajamouli is a good cooking chief, and Lokesh masters the dark action thriller genre, but they can't even be close to the 90ties MR, sadly nowadays he sales his brand, not try to push his making to new heights

Mani Ratnam is a glorified music video director. He made only a few good movies, with the majority falling into the category of mediocrity. Some of his works begin impressively but tend to become convoluted with unnecessary elements, resulting in a tedious and uninteresting viewing experience. The most important thing is, his movies are successful mainly because of the music by Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. Without them, his movies wouldn't be as successful.

This is like a marketing campaign rather than an analysis/ review. He must have got paid for it. Mani has passed his prime like 20 years back

Currently MR is an over rated director. I would say his best movies were with IR. With Thalapathi his downward trend started. The main point with Karna is that he died as an illegitimate child though he knew who his mother and brothers are. That sad feeling is the one which makes one sympathetic toward him. Thalapathi movie in the end fell flat on its face. Ever since MR is biggy backing on ARR and other technicians. With PS1 & 2 ARR is also in down swing. PS1 & 2 seem to be working one song wonder. MR is a bad story writer. He needs some kind of story to string together his postcard perfect images, and does not care about the logical holes in his story. Do u remember postcard perfect scene in Kannathil Muthamittal, the 6 or 7 year old girl standing on the Rameshwaram beach. Now think, how it is possible for a small girl child to catch local bus in Chennai to main bus station to catch a bus to Rameshwaran and then catch a local bus to the camp site? MR wants us believe none of the 3 conductors bothered to take any step to enquirer and stop the girl. So he first visualized post car scene and faulty logic behind how she reached there, he is not concerned. Again Baradwaj Rnangan is in business and wants to be in the good books of MR, so that he can get his interview etc to keep his viewership count more. Some you need to say the emperor is named. But BR can say that. On the otherhand at times I feel BlueChattai Maran is says the truth.

Bhardwaj mate come on there are many directors better than maniratnam. Stop making him as a God of cinema. I am not saying maniratnam is not a good director, he is a very good director no doubt but many young age directors surpassed him especially Lokesh, Rajamouli to name few. Stop pleasing him and his era is over ..
