Maharaj Thakur Singh Ji, a renowned vocalist, kirtaniya, violinist, poet, philanthropist, and mystic, was the son of the legendary Giani Gian Singh Ji Almast.
One of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century, he chose to live in anonymity for nearly five decades until his death at his farm near Sri Anandpur Sahib on 26 August 2006. Known affectionately as Hazoor Pitaji by the sangat in Anandpur Sahib, his surviving recordings were collected and restored by Bhai Baldeep Singh in the five years before his passing.
Bhai Baldeep Singh ( Grand nephew of Bhai Avtar Singh Bhai Gurchasran Singh Ji Ragi ) had the privilege of spending seven years with him and dedicated five-and-a-half years to restoring some of his recorded tapes.
Maharaj Thakur Singh's associations also included figures such as Bhai Naseera, Bhai Arjan Singh Tarangar, and Prof. Ranjit Singh Ji. Bhai Sahib Ji also used to pay his hazaris at Nanaksar.
