Low enough you dont have to “unretract” your scapulas, high enough where the ROM to unrack is just a tiny bit more than enough to get it off

I would blow my shoulders out benching with my grip that wide. The more weight the more stress on the shoulder joints. My thumbs touch the smooth. 585lbs raw and I would need two new rotator cuffs. Feel free to give me crap, but 8 World Records in the last 3 years in raw Benching, I think I do know a little. Just saying.
@maxpreobrazhensky7124
@maxpreobrazhensky7124 5 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate? The thing is, I've read some Russian sources on the topic and the advice was "to use more triceps then the chest, so you can put out additional force by your hands and save your shoulders". The books were about achieving 150 and 200 kg checkpoints, btw. Your comment is somehow reminiscent for me.
@kolecarterbenches
@kolecarterbenches 5 жыл бұрын
@@maxpreobrazhensky7124 if you look at almost everyone who benches 500 600 700 pounds they have a grip similar to mine. The shoulders really cannot take that much pressure. Narrower grip moves the weight into the triceps and back, away from the shoulders. I partially tore a rotator when I listened to someone who told me I should have a wider grip. I tried it and RIP went the rotator. I rehabbed it using my slingshot and strengthening the muscles around it but if you have ever used a slingshot / bench daddy they are designed to pull your elbows in and also the width or your grip. Cruise through youtube and look at some of the bigger benchers where their hands are. My shoulders are pretty wide, my chest is 5 feet around almost, and my grip is thumbs just barely touch the smooth.
@hititwithit
@hititwithit 5 жыл бұрын
@@kolecarterbenches Not that I want to say your grip isn't optimal for you, but two lifters that sprung to mind, super heavy weight world record holder Kiril Sarychev and Larry Weels, both bench press with (I'd say index or middle) fingers on the rings, so about as wide as Taylor does here. It's true that the bigger lifters do have quite some range of motion, even with really heavy weights because they place their hands relatively narrow on the bar compared to their body size, esp. shoulder width. I only really see the very light lifters bench with super wide grip and barely any RoM.
@kolecarterbenches
@kolecarterbenches 5 жыл бұрын
@@hititwithit Take a look at Spoto, Strickland, Maddox, Henderson, Hoonstra, and most of the BIG benchers. When you talk about Wheels and Kiril. THey are BIG guys with WIDE shoulders. Taylor is a fraction of their size. Majority of the BIG benchers have a narrower grip. There are exceptions, but comparative to size their grip is not that wide. A lot of it depends also on the type of bencher you are. Tricep benchers have a narrow grip. Lets stand Taylor up in front of Kiril. Both have the same width grip, but there is a HUGE difference in size of the body frame. Just saying.
