His shop is a great atmosphere. Conversation, laughter and diversity from a very well read man. Thanks Bernard!

Coming from waxing for 7 years; Started at sport clips about 1 1/2 months ago. Getting paid training & CE hrs so I can be confident in transitioning to a “real” shop cutting more textured hair. Goal is to transition to a barber shop in 5 months. From there looking to start providing spa services like facials/waxing, ear candles, & eventually manicures to my chair. Big dreams over here!!

The reason he said 15k was because that was back in 2007. If you want to open a barbershops now I think minimum would be around the 20k mark. 15k back in 2007 was enough to get you an above average shop and 20k and up would get you an upper scale shop. Crazy how 15k now will get you a hoopty somewhere in the hood.

I’ve always wanted to be a barber since HS, decided to go the safe route and get into carpenters union instead…I’m 26 now turning 27 this summer…is it too late to still make the change to barber school or is that a good age to start?
@spot10026

Brooo thats thats when I started around 26 . I got into barber school part time ,working my full time job at a hospital , cutting on the weekends . Eventually got my license around 27. Left my full time job and took a risk at barber national chain with my license to provide an hourly cushion (not the only option). I focused on my craft and client building from the very beginning. I could thankfully say Im blessed to have built a solid following up til this point 4 years later. And tbh if get in a busy shop and you take it one cut at a time you could have have a good following starting within 6 months to a year.

Go after it. I been cutting since 12 years old but didn’t get my license till 26 and naw I’m 33. I love it and it change my life. Honestly barbering is a great career but it’s not for everybody. Yeah you got all these video and people making it seem like they balling and just super rich off barbering. But you got to put that work in and be patience. You got to have that dog in you to get to it. Really that’s in many things. But barbering a different game but i love it. I always encourage others to at least try it out and always keep it in your arsenal as something that can always help you build in business and and overall entrepreneurship. So go for it!!!

Yo Bossio. I jumped in your livestream recently and I think people thought I was trolling. If you happen to get around to it, I’d love to provide further explanation and get your input. I’ve been barbering, as a hobby, for 25 years. I started on myself, learned some tricks of the trade from my mom who’s a former stylist, and developed my craft over time. I’ve started to take it more seriously over the past 5 years or so. I have a 6 figure career in another field, I thoroughly enjoy cutting hair, but I don’t plan on transitioning to barbering full time. I primary do house calls and charge between $40-$70 depending on the service plus a small house call charge depending on drive time and mileage. I’ve dedicated approximately 500 hours watching Instructional videos such as yours, received a lot of hands on training from my mom, and at this point have done thousands of cuts over time. So, my question is, on a scale of 1-10, how much should I value obtaining a license? At this point I kinda feel I’ve invested the necessary time and money into equipment and that school would be redundant. I know your primarily focus is on developing skills and business practices to turn barbering into a lucrative profession, but I’d love your input for someone such as myself that just sees it as a fun side-gig that is also financially beneficial. Even if you have a negative outlook on the unconventional way I’ve gone about it, it’s all good man. Thank you either way for all your videos. I really enjoy your content.

@@blancosmoke id say there’s haters everywhere, you got barbers that hate the guy next to them cause they’re scared they’re gonna lose a client to them. On the grand scale of things who cares what other barbers say! If you’re doing good haircuts then the clients won’t have anything to complain about, if you cut a clients skin bad or something and you’re in your home they could sue you and Id imagine try to take your home, but that’s a worst case scenario. I’d cut from home for a mandatory donation and you’re good to go bossman

Tell barbers to stop announcing how much they make annually. IRS use it to determine tax bracket. When in actuality, we never know the amount we make per day.
