The Barbie film has hit the billion-dollar mark just 17 days after it was released, according to distributor Warner Bros.
It means Greta Gerwig has become the first woman to reach the milestone as a solo director.
Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, it has drawn in $459m so far in the US and $572m internationally.

Hey, im a 57 year old man, and i took my 9 year old twin girls, and i loved this movie. We all wore pink via party city, found me a $10 Ken wig, and the girls wore blonde hairpieces, which a lot of others did, and that just added to the fun. Its visually stunning, the CGI is epic, the costumes very accurate, the recreation of human size barbie furniture and the car are so engineered, the casting is perfect, and the actual story is pretty good. Check it out.

I went and saw Oppenheimer first, as I really wanted to appreciate the work that it clearly got into it and the very clear importance of this story today, and it was much more my kind of story, but I still 100% plan on seeing Barbie in cinemas while I can. I hope Oppenheimer can also make it to something close to or make it over £1 billion as well.

With the COVID and Ukraine war inflation, should adjust the "$1B" into constant dollars so we can compare its performance to "Jaws" , "Star Wars" , "Jurassic Park" etc.
