I've seen her in concert twice and both times she managed to make venues of nearly 20K feel intimate. Two suggested "draw-ins" from Barbra: -From 1971 Burt Bacharach TV special, Barbra duets with herself on "One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not a Home". -From her 1966 TV Special "Color Me Barbra", "It Had To Be You" (not the 2014 version with Michael Buble.). Or "C'est Si Bon" from that same special. Btw, Barbra is 81 now and just released her memoirs. 😊

Your reaction was perfect, Cold Fire... that's what Barbra does like no other... she pulls you in like a magnetic force. No one interprets a lyric and makes it come to life in your heart like Barbra. As she once said, "What comes from the heart, goes to the heart." And she has always lived by that. Barbra's last live concert performance was in 2019, just before the pandemic. She's 81 now, but still plans another studio album next year. She just released her 992-page autobiography a few weeks ago, which she was working on for 10 years. The audiobook is 48 hrs., and she speaks her life story like she sings, just to you... very intimate and personal. It's a joy to listen to. You might want to consider reacting to Barbra's career by decade, you've started with the 60s. Each decade brings a different feel as she traverses all the genres of music...Broadway, Classical, Pop, Soft Rock, R&B, Jazz, Disco, and even a little Country and Reggae. Great reaction. Keep going down the Barbra rabbit hole... you'll be thrilled you did.

"BB&B" - Bewitched bothered & bewildered (not "beloved" as you've titled the post). Thanks for sharing. I saw her first time when our campus Friday night movie showed Funny Girl fall of '69. I was hooked. Went back next night to see a second time & I think I've bought every album, cd & DVD since. I think it was on the vinyl cover to "BS & other musical instruments" where the reviewer said she kept redoing spots where she didn't like this or that. Changes were so small (like, she said "the second violin came in late here"), the reviewer never heard the difference from one to the next -- but when they played the first tape, then the last, he said the diff was overwhelmingly obvious -- and all the needed changes she heard & requested were caught by her ear while she was singing. I think talent & BS are listed in some grammar book as a spot on example of "synonym".

Why do so many KZfaqs say "So-and-so Live" when it's on a taped or filmed show?

KZfaqrs react to different variations of an artist. 1. Their studio version. 2. Their video version. 3. Their live version. Live is when the artist is being visually seen performing a song on a show or other platform. Some are rehearsed and some are not, but it is because they are visually seen performing a song for an audience so that people can see them in person as opposed to listening to them on their album or streaming device, etc.

@@coldfire7141 Live has absolutely nothing to do with the presence of an audience. Judy had a fear of live television and her show was taped. But if it had been broadcast live with no audience (occasionally there were segments taped with no audience present), those who saw it at home would have seen it live. Barbra's rendition of "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered" was live if you were in the audience or somehow connected with Judy's show at Studio 43 in CBS's Television City during the taping. No one else has seen or heard it live, including everyone on this board. Those present in the studio audience of Saturday Night Live at NBC in New York see this unfunny show live. Those who see the same show when it is broadcast live on TV also see it live. Those who see the show a year later, a week later, a day later, or a minute later, did not see it live. You can jack the term "live" around all you want, and make up things, but words have meaning. Sorry-not sorry for the pun, but "live" won't change even after we are dead.

@@coldfire7141 I would be profoundly embarrassed if I were you. I'm trying to remember the last time I said, "But all the other kids are doing it!" Oh yes... I was 12. Don't ask what I was caught doing.
