I believe Jaywalking is illegal in Barcelona, and throughout Spain, so there is no surprise that guy gave you a funny look when you crossed on red.

tell me about! I visit New York, Miami Rio, Malaga and Madrid frequently and I have been stopped by police x2 occasions in Spain doing crossing the road when light red. you get used to doing it all over the world but not in Spain i always forget.

The Passeig Maritim was created in its present form in time for the 1992 Olympics. The sand was imported from Egypt apparently (why not nearer?).

always had to be on my guard in barca, not the most cool and relaxing place to visit, pickpockets and thieves and scum everywhere. Always be on your guard with your possessions.

worst petty crime than in Rio and Sao Paulo I never seen this in Brazil or Argentina but 5x times in Barcelona in a fifth of the amount of visiting. Barcelona is a true hellhole not sur what the fuss is about with it.!
