At age 5 they are still learning to say and write the alphabet, spell their name, and how to count to a hundred, and they are just starting addition. Subtraction, division and multiplication are still a year or three away, and you need to know all of these to do algebra. If anyone is truly interested in math and starts at, per say, the age of three or four to learn it, in a year or two they should be able to grasp the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. So the equation he's trying to solve is: -7 = b/-3 - 6 So first thing he's doing is he's trying to get rid of the -6 on the right side, thats why there is +6 on both sides under the -7 and -6, which makes the equation: -1 = b/-3 Next he wants to get rid of the denominator on the right, which is -3, by multiplying both sides by (-3), which is why he has the (-3) on the left under the -1. Therefore b = 3. He's a bit messy which makes it a bit hard to read, but that's understandable considering he's like 5.

when i was a child, i had the hardest time trying to learn, was late on everything i did. walking, talking, couldn't even sound out letters from the alphabet. wasn't until i got in high school, that i started absorbing everything. i am a visual learner. once i see how something is done, i can mimic it. now in days, all i do is watch documentaries and absorb as much random knowledge as i can. i think learning all has to do with how the individual's (desire) to learn. I also think it has to do with the brains capability of understanding the information that is being presented it.
