A WOMAN who has been described as a medical anomaly has lost her hair and teeth but not her joyful spirit. Tiffany Wedekind, 43, from Columbus, Ohio, has progeria - a rapid ageing disease with an expected life expectancy of 13 years. Tiffany’s mum has the disease as did her brother, Chad, who passed away eight years ago. She has now lost her hair and her teeth as a result of the disease but is determined to continue living her life to the fullest.

There are different types of Progeria and the life expectancy varies, so I’m not sure why they’re focusing on the life expectancy of the more severe forms. Perhaps she’s never pursued identifying her specific variant now that they know more about it.

It really is incredible because the oldest to live aside of her was 26. I think she maybe a mosaic.. That would be why she is taller and in better health.

@@luxie2155 No it's because there is different types of progeria She has the adult one Basically her symptoms shows up in her late teens, early adulthood. It's a more slow process than the progeria in children and the life expectancy is way more improved

@@luxie2155 it's OK and it could be true in a lot of chromosomal diseases like down syndrome as you said Progeria is an inherited disorder (both her parents have the gene) and in her case the type is known as "Werner Syndrome" if you want to do more researches :) EDIT: however progeria in children is due to a mutation, they're not the same

@@lux4785 Yes, this seems very different from the childhood version of the disease -- and much better outcomes and prognosis. The fact that her mother had it and could reproduce -- that is unheard of in people with childhood progeria.

I love her, I am also a "special" person, i am intersexed. So I am different. I have age related issues because of my XX/XY CHROMOSOMES issues. But my friends and my husband love me.

Hi Stephanie. You rock it girl. Your zest for life the way you approach living is incredible. Next week I have to have all the roots, all of my teeth pulled out so I will have no teeth at all. And it's a big blow to realize my once beautiful smile will be gone because of a massive infection I got in my mouth. And just watching you and how you talked about it and how you went through it with courage and you put it in perspective has really helped me face but I need to face. I love your studio. I would love to know where to get your candles. I love all the art in there and the backpacks and everything. It's also amazing how long you've lived with progeria. Thank you so much for making this video about an incredible awesome loving soul.
