Couldn't have said it better myself. The only thing better than the performance of this *chilling* story was listening to you turning it over in your head for us afterward. I am really cheating myself out of the best bits by falling asleep to your stories, every time I make it all the way through I remember this and smack myself. Thank you for another one to add to my very favourite ghost stories. ❤

I love hearing your patter. I love hearing about your dogs and your witchy wife. Helping me take my mind off the mass shooting in Allen Outlets in Texas. I live 5 minutes from there and my son was working at a burger place inside the mall. Still trying to process it all. You are a steady cozy voice in my life. :)

Well I appreciate your “yammer” comments at the end-you always have such interesting ideas and news. In this story I like the idea that the fish were significant. I too don’t enjoy stories that explain, as well as those that preach. There were a few moments in this story that brought a chill-I especially liked the moment when his friend cautioned him through the door…but then it’s explained and the mystery was punctured. Your comparison to James’ story Whistle My Lad is good, because it’s so scary due to the inexplicable energy. I hope so much your puppies continue to thrive. 😍

Personally, I come for the stories & your personal “book club” commentary. I LEARN so much from you. The consistency of your uploads makes it an open enrollment, but you are yourself an exceptional teacher, Tony. No doubt as to why one of your daughters chose TEACHING as a career; as you remind me of my FAVORITE PROFs in college! They were ALWAYS taking the group into tangential jungles of SPIDER MOTHER’s WEB OF LIFE, teaching us that to ASK QUESTIONS is more important than to regurgitate known answers; &, if you are lucky, you might get an intellectual adventure like ALICE IN WONDERLAND! Listening to your channel is like stepping into the mirror glass. Tony Walker you guide our VIRTUAL, classy folk who come to listen, down creepy crawly, haunted passages that lead us deep into the psyche & around the social penchant for human conditioning & those WONDERFUL STORIES that seem to mess up a good quaff, a SPOOK looking into our own reflection. We who stay for the WHOLE adventure, listen with CAPABLE ATTENTION SPANS & are EVER SO GRATEFUL❣️🪆 🧠🫀🫁🗣️📖📚📬 🗝️🚪🪟🪞🖼️🪆🎁 🐶💗🐶💝 🍸Cheers!🍻

Your so-called patter was very interesting. Symbolic thinking is like putting a puzzle together. I’m a singer/songwriter and have also written many sermon manuscripts. To use symbolism is quite a fine way to explain what you’re getting to. I think I’ll start writing scary stories just to amuse myself!! I truly enjoy your podcast. Thanks, Bud Cary.

Ok, seriously, I like the “pattering on”just as much as the story. That guy was a doofus. So glad Jasper is well for now. Poor buddy. I needed this so much, Tony. If you want any advice on the potty training, I can do that. I can write you up something and send it it you’d like. I’m actually a dog trainer by trade, even though I’m a squirrel mother now. Ooooh, Zizek, I love him. I mean, I get why people who think academia is just one big, silly, pretentious circle jerk see him as the absolute poster child for scholarly mumbo-jumbo, naval-gazing, and meaningless nonsense, but I personally love him. Actually, one of my ex’s who taught a course on him got me a tshirt that said, “I ❤Zizek!” 😂 Anyway, I really need this. Baby Zola is still eating every 2 hours and at 2 weeks in, I’m cracking up.

I was too tired to fully appreciate this tonight, will listen again when rested. But, what I caught, I enjoyed, per usual. The art work is the scariest aspect of this story to me. There are several examples of spooky tales that have artworks act as supernatural portals. (my cup of tea)

Yes I agree. There was no need for the over-explanation at the end. I think we'd put it together! Also , mystery is always more eerie than fact. I loved the lyrical description of the country house (the layout always intrigues me (and allows me to visualise), the gardens and woods. I was so enjoying the summer somnolent atmosphere ( with touches of "The Innocents") that the ghostly part was almost an added bonus! 🤣

Great job. Shared widely. I enjoy the way EFB starts so many stories by sending his characters on vacations and allowing the reader to come along. I wonder if FA did the brick-kiln paintings before or after the murder? (Cries out for sequel? "The Catalogue raisonné of FA.")

I enjoy having what it is pinned down. I don't like being left up in the air; it greatly annoys me. It makes the story feel unfinished and makes me feel as though I have wasted my time. I was tricked into reading what promised to be a whole story, but they left out what it was out? I could write that! A good writer can tell you what it is and still scare you.

So, my take on the story is: Separation is a bad thing. The artist felt separated from his wife and murdered her. He inadvertently (or purposely) put the two guys together. In 1914, it was as close to admitting courting in gay relationships as one could get. What is fishing? Hunting, courting, coupling, etc. etc.

P.S. The BITS of “walked through analysis” IS & ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! I especially like this one because I think you are RIGHT ON SYMBOLIC COURSE with observations from this artistic expression from this author! I think in a day SO FINITELY addicted to “personality” & “IDENTITY”, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that CONSCIOUS CONVERSATIONS about who, how, what, where, & possibilities of why are eminently important in DISCOVERING our own motivations; for if we become a society that only regurgitates IDENTITY for IDENTITY’s sake of “fame” or “notoriety”, without having girth & grip to hold on to, wrestle with, earnestly give thought on to, social VAPIDITY is to be our only mirror to gaze into; & whilst assuredly being “boring”, the illusion will crumble into the mirage that “fame” actually is- fleeting & of little importance in the TRULY ARTISTIC HUMAN BEING! Your art of storytelling, your exposure to the vast differences of the human condition, & the personal interests & insights DEEPLY enrich & inspire your audience. 🫶🏼🫀✍🏼🪄🗝️🚪🧠
