Nice job. But why did you not primer the surface before. And then sand to get a better finish?
@baremetalHW7 жыл бұрын
The point of this video was to address several people who were complaining that sanding the car was destroying the nickel plated surface... This video was as good as I could get without sanding and priming it... in more resent videos I do sand and prime... I try to address what my viewers bring up in the comments... thus this video is a result of comments left in my mustang video..were I sand the crap out of the model to get all the pits out. Unfortunately you don't get to choose what video KZfaq promotes... I would not have chosen this one as it only represents the best I could do not sanding the car. Many of my videos, like this one, are just experiments... showing different ways at going after an issue or tackling a viewers concern. Not every video ends with a perfect looking car.

I did a real 69 Camaro SS back in 77, and the resto-mod job took 3 months. Every piece of trim, molding, etc. was removed, and the car was stripped down to the original paint/primer. The body was perfect, straight, and had no filler. Next was six coats of primer with a guide coat on top, and after a week of block sanding was sealed. next was a scuff pad and wipe before setting her in the booth for a day and half to acclimate and let any vapors off. For paint was 78 Corvette dark blue metallic lacquer, and four coats of it. This was followed by water-sanding to take off the glaze and open it up for the next step of two coats of clear with a teaspoon of blue pearl in it. Driving this car down Sunset Strip in LA was a blast at night.........seeing this done to HW cars was refreshing at the least.
@cameroncrane37707 жыл бұрын
Keith Lucas that's cool,the first car I bought and restored was a 72 camaro split bumper,and the paintjob was well......pretty much gone so I primed it with and black primer coat,gold base coat I think I did a metallic gold base coat and then I did a candy apple red paintjob over that and then wetsanded and buffed etc etc but I did the black interior with leather bucket seats and a brushed steel I got from another project I put in door panels and across the dash as decoration and a holley 650 4 barrel carb(I believe), I had on and then the edelbrock intake I took apart and put a k&n high performance filter and cleaned out the motor cause I felt that's all that really needed to be done other than the carb and stuff I did but as a teenager as soon as I got a offer to buy it and I saw the cash I went for it and I kinda wish I kept it but I'm kinda glad I didn't at the same time

Many are pristine…and I know some of them sport the appropriate “battle scars of play hood”. I’m not really eBay savvy, nor do I care to be. I have marked that particular box as potentially valuable, should I pass before my wife, so that she doesn’t just throw it into a Goodwill bin. I do enjoy watching these childhood relics restored to “like new” condition, along with a couple of fingers of a high quality bourbon. Bravo-Zulu! Well,done….that purple came out so well!

Restored cars go for less than original cars of the same condition for sure.. I could probably get 25$-50$ for this car restored. I paid 5$ for it. A near mint original can go for several hundred.. I don't have a mint original... I have a 5$ car that I can sell for more than 5$.. I am rather sure that is not "worth Less"... People sell restored cars on ebay all the time and I am sure they are not doing it at a loss... www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Wheels-Redline-1968-HK-Honey-Gold-Custom-Cougar-White-Int-Restored-/291981756179?hash=item43fb780713:g:wR0AAOSwo4pYXsef

I've been buying and selling Hot Wheels and Matchbox for 30+ years and have a few thousand in inventory. I can say without a doubt that blue Camaros are not selling for hundreds of dollars and if you can get $25-$50 for that resto then you should jump on it but I think you are way high on your estimate. Also considering the man-hours invested it really isn't worth doing for $25. Don't get me wrong you did a nice job but if you are in it for the money then you are going to lose big time.

A few people have told me to spend them to get money as I'm 18 and quite frankly don't use them anymore but honestly it's hard to let them go so all 200 (roughly and yes I did count them all) are staying home 😂

Haha, that car looks all too familiar. That was one of my favorite hot wheels cars as a kid. :)

I was suggested to this video to help me fall asleep. It's been more than 3 months and it's been great, i've been sleeping like a baby. I don't mean any disrespect to baremetalHW or the narrator. I found the video incredibly interesting when i watched it during the day, but i have to say.. love falling asleep to this video. "hot-wheel's dreams" :)
