Speaking as someone who served four years in the Marines (1984-1988), four years in the Army (1988 -1992), three years in the National Guard (1992-1995), I really like what you're doing here with this channel. Very informative for anyone who is thinking of serving in the military. I rejoined the military when I turned 40 ten years ago and served a few more years. The young troops seemed to value my expertise and knowledge, it seemed as though they weren't as well trained as we were back in the eighties and nineties. It's nice to see there are leaders like yourself out there, you have solid strategies to ensure your troops are trained to the best of their abilities.

I was all ready and through MEPS to join the Air Force but then I sprained my collarbone... It's been almost an entire year and it's finally getting to the point where I can do push-ups on my knees. Been a long 9 months but I've never been more determined to get my ass in there and do my fucking best at anything. Thank God for this injury. It has humbled me and given me a new outlook on how I spend my time and helped me grow as a person and I believe this lesson will help me so much when I'm in there.

I know this is a different era. God bless you and your service. I was a Platoon Commander in the USMC (Infantry) from 1989 to 1993 (well, weapons platoon and XO of a company, as well). I only had a TO platoon when we deployed to Desert Shield. When I first picked up my platoon, I had 22 Marines and 1 Corpsman. A TO platoon at the time was 43 Marines and 3 Corpsmen. Anyway good video. I like that you consult your Platoon Sergeant. After all, the backbone of the service is the NCO. Cheers

I was a tank commander in the 2/72 armor. as far as food goes you ate in the mess hall if you can call it that or you starved. I'm really proud of young leaders like you. I was a jock like you compared to the rest of the guys. 1980 I made the All Army powerlifting team at the 198lb class. I'm glad you guys have a great weight room to use. keep up the good work leading your men. you are a proud 2nd Lt and you should be. God bless you and thank you for your hard work.

This just popped up for me. I remember 30 years ago, getting my first Infantry platoon, also in Korea, I also had my Ranger tab. After initial intake, and all that hoopla, my Platoon SGT... Staff Sargeant Jennings... and I sat down for a little 1 on 1, free speech time away from our soldiers. He informed me that he would let me know when I was ready to take over his platoon, lol... "Sir, don't you worry, I'll let you know when you're ready to take over, and command MY platoon." (emphasis on the word "my", lol) I learned so much from him.

Dear Nick, as a medical student who has many ROTC personnel who I study with, I often wonder if the jacked and strong public image (as you display) of the military is typical of the average service person, or merely a dedicated and vocal percentage. FYI, you're awesome and an inspiration

Hi there. I spent 10 years in the Australian infantry battalions. Your attitude towards physical fitness is fantastic. It definitely improves combat readiness. The only thing I can possibly add, is NEVER order your soldiers to do a task you are not willing or capable of doing yourself. If you ask your troops to swim in sewerage, than you need to prove that you are happy to swim in sewerage yourself. If you "ask" (not order) your troops to do a task, that the troops know you are more than willing to do that task yourself inclusive your your own sweat, blood and tears, than it is likely your troops will follow your orders because of your own demonstrated leadership strength. They will follow your leadership to death. Just my own experience.

Nick! Any aspirations for Ran Bat (not just school) or selection/Q man? I did both during my time. Keep that PT up and don't be afraid to aspire to serve in that higher capacity brother. It will also inspire your troops... After OCS (I was also an 11A, prior service though), I actually felt that FTXs drained troop strength/work rate (PT scores always go down) and were NOT good indicators of duties during deployment/battle rhythm. Also, during my 8yr tenure, I never got WHY joes respected the tabs so much-I actually think it is more envy than respect. When youre triple tabbed, ppl ask stupidest questions and look at you like you're another sprees or something. You're still young-put in that 4187 for selection bro, trust me you won't regret it

@Hammerschlägen M but all that shit aside, if things are done right by both NCO and junior officer, by the time LT makes it to Captain, he, by his own learning and observation and trial and error, combined with guidance from NCO, should be on his way to being an effective leader. Or are you going to say that top runs company and capt, too, is an idiot? I guess that goes to BN, where the SGM is in charge of BN maneuver tactics. I get what youre saying until kid can find the men's room but if that silly shit goes on two long, I'd guess THAT Lt would not be around long...certainly not past Cpt.

I work as a software manager and my day is 10 times more stressful and physical than the army by the looks of things. I start with a run into work and I don't get to sit and ponder over my food. This guys life looks relaxed to say the least.

Ashling Malone he is an officer which means he gets to relax and not answer to anyone except the XO which is the executive officer and the CO which is the commander. All this gym time and him walking to work when he wants to is officer bullshit. Enlisted have it way worse it’s more manual labor and long days. He’s built like a tank because he can go to the gym for hours without anyone calling him making him work till 8 or longer.

@@rasher331 I have a feeling his can go to SHIT in a real hurry...with no opportunity to resign. I know from my time in '86-'88 (as an 2LT, 1LT) that when you were "on" (whether time and energy draining non-war [back then...not counting ongoing Cold War]), you didn't have time for shit. But when you were off, you tried to make the most of it. I had little luck myself because when I got back from field, I was behind two weeks of meetings, staff shit, nuke surety drills (Arty BN S-2). But...that was a long time ago. I was a workout dog but I sadly gave it up during my time with Uncle Sugar. One of the reasons I moved on. And of course, as soon as I resign, Cold war, after 45 yrs, ends and my friend comes to Ft. Polk (yr after I leave) and tells me how there's no training money and he spends all his time...in the gym (humble though it was)!! Gotta luv it.
